Oh and my grandpa bought a '58 Dodge new, like this but a hardtop.  I still have the original owners manual.  Would love to get one someday.

There's a guy near me with a huge "personal junkyard." He drove me through it one day to show me what he thought was a Challenger (turned out to be a roughly 73 Satellite) and on the way I saw a 58 New Yorker. Shoudl I ever again be employed I'm going to go back and have a word with him about that car.

I had a 59 Fury 2-door hardtop a couple of years ago. Motor (318 wideblock-2bbl) and tranny (pushbutton) worked fine. Complete car. All glass and stainless complete and good, including the stainless steel dash. All lights and gauges worked. Interior was gutted and front floor pans had some pinholes. Other than the interior, the rest of the car was completely original. Certainly not anywhere near as bad as some of the newer Mopars I have seen. I had it for sale for several years, and all I could get out of it was $750. I still have a bunch of parts for it, because at that price, I refused to include them with the vehicle. I sohuld have parted it out, and I could have probably made 5 to 10 times as much.

There is not a real big market for the cars, but they do have some devoted followers. I joined a couple of websites devoted to them, and met a lot of nice people. The value depends mostly on if its a Sport Fury or not, 2-door instead of 4-door, hardtop instead of post, and the engine, although their followers seem to be just as happy with whatever they have.

The problem with these cars, is that reproduction parts are practically nonexistant, and you are forced into reconditioning, or buying NOS. Unless the car is cherry, you'll never get out what you put into it if you restore it. In my opinion, their restoration is usually a "labor of love", and not something to casually consider unless, once again, the car is cherry as it sits.

Here are a couple of photos of the one I had. It was in black primer, and affectionately called "The Batmobile" by everyone who saw it. My intention was to make a ratrod out of it. Leave it flat black, black out the windows, put some neon under it, huge wheels and tires, hi-tech interior. Just had too many irons in the fire, never got around to it, and didnt have any place to store it inside.

One other note of interest: After I had sold the car, my daughter told me that she had contacted the "Overhaulin" program about it, and they had sent her a reply showing interest. So she didnt know I was selling the car, and I didnt know she was planning something. Two ships passing in the night. My luck, as usual.

If you buy CHRISTINE you won't have to worry about parts, the car fixes itself.    :roflsmiley:   :scared:

Christine was a '58 Sport Fury, not a '59.

Here's one that was at the Mr. Norm show in Volo:

In the original novel Christine was actually a 57 and changed to a 58 for the movie. In my opinion a 58 Fury is one of the sweetest ride ever made. Certainly had the looks to match the name!!!

I love Google....

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
