AAR/TA Spoiler Installation
« on: August 19, 2008 - 02:49:34 PM »
I am installing an AAR ducktail spoiler and I have the standard hardware for installation, but I need some help figuring out how to do it.  The hardware has 4 clips and matching screws, but then it has 4 hex shaped threaded recepticles that obviously then take the steel mounting brackets the spoiler slides on to.  It's the clips and recepticles I can't figure out how to properly mount.  Any help, links, etc, would be GREATLY appreciated, I don't want to screw it up.

Thanks folks!

This is HUGE!!!  Thank you sir!!  I just left a note in the noob section, with a pic as well.  Would you happen to know how to install the clips?  I can get a pic of the installation hardware if you need it, but you probably know what I'm talking about.  Great file, thanks again.

The clips slide over the bolts just to hold them in place. I will take a picture of mine when I get home tonight and post for you.

Mark, that would be fantastic.  Yes, if I could see how the clips work, that would be what I need.  Thanks, and what a great community!  I was wondering if the clips were more for the retainers than the bolts.  Thanks again.

Do NOT use that diagram for an AAR, that is for a T/A.

The AAR spoilers are different, I would be very surprised if the holes were in the same spot on an AAR.

whoa   Thanks Alaskan, that's just slightly important to know!  Begs the question-anyone have the specs for an AAR?  I'm hoping to tackle this on Friday, ConfedCuda's pics should be the real help I need.  Thanks again

FPAP sells a template that may be helpful to you.

Hey Tim,
Sorry I did not get any pics for you last night but I thought I had a extra set of hardward to show you how they go on but I could not find it. Did you get a new one from First Place Auto or somewhere like that? Basicly, the t portion of the bolt fits into the spoiler and mounts through the deck lid. The 4 cone shaped nuts hold in place from the cut outs on the unders side of the deck lid. There should also be 4 clips that mount into the spoiler (2 at each end) and these are used for the sheet metal screws to screw into. My spoiler is mounted but I am happy to take pictures for you if you would like. I did not use any template but rather placed the spoiler where I thought it looked correct and made a template from there. Keep in mind that mine is a restomod and it is not important to me that everything be exact to factory specs. If you are restoring an AAR you need to be sure to get it correct.

Mark,

Thanks.  I hate for you to go through a lot of trouble, but if it's no big deal, I'd love to see a pic.  Here's how I'm thinking it goes....I get it that the clip screws onto the spoiler itself, not sure exactly how it holde the T-bolt, but maybe like this.  Also there is a slotted washer...I assume that goes against the inside deck lid with the cone nuts on top of that....Does the pic make sense.  Thanks, I really would like to do it right.  Oh, and I'm a more casual resto-modder like you....my car right now is at the hillbilly level.  :)

Mike thanks for the FPAP lead, I checked it out looks like a good outfit.  I'm interested in adding their sprinkler system to my fiberglass AAR hood...thanks.

Awesome Mark, thanks.  Did you cut those notches on the bottome of your deck lid?  Mine definitely does not have those.  Also, in my pic, did I get the location of the clips right?  They will screw into the bottom of the spoiler, and then when you slide the T into the bottom notch, they will "clip" onto the T?  Are they facing the right way?

Also, I'd like to see more of your car.  What's that badge on the rear quarter?  Also looks like you got some Autometers goin' on in the dash....is that a dark blue color?

Thanks again.
