Cool Challenger pic from back in the day
« on: August 22, 2008 - 12:38:06 PM »
Found this picture on the net. I like the picture a lot and love the car. But I have a couple of questions. The car is obvioulsy a '73 or '74 and the picture was supposed taken in 1973 when the car was new. That's everything I know and it probably wouldn't be possible for me to get more info.

The top bugs me though. I know you could get a dark gold vinyl top in 1971. They brought back a gold vinyl top for 1973 and 74 but it was a much lighter color. This top looks brown which was never an e-body vinyl top color, so I'm thinking maybe it's a V02 car. But I think I see a seam at the front edge on the driver's side. I guess it could have been a dealer add on.

Could you get V02 in 1973 or 1974? I can't remember and don't have my manuals to look it up.

What do you guys think?

I wonder how "new "that car was when the picture was taken...looks to me like it had some damage.  The door doesn`t line up to the fender and there seems to be pretty much difference in the color too... :dunno:   Can`t see any rooftrim on the back either,  or would that be due to the angle the pic has been taken from....
cool pic though  :2thumbs:

:sly:  Yeah, I can see where the door isn't aligned but the color may ba a light/reflection sort of thing.

The seam on the roof doesn't look like it's in the right spot for a Challenger, which I think should be closer to the drip rail.  The Barracuda seam is closer to the center of the car.  Maybe like you said, it's a dealer or aftermarket deal?
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Just blew me away when I opened this post. That picture was taken at the Holiday Inn in Barrie, Ontario, Canada sometime around 1976 or 77.
An old friend of mine ( Mark Fisher) is standing behind the car. If I recall it was his parents car. Notice the bottle of Labatts 50 on the roof of the car.
I believe 3 or 4 of us were having a couple of quick beers before we headed out somewhere.

This sure did bring back a lot of old memories. Thanks for that.

What a great pic.  The color combo with the brown vinyl give the car a real 70's casual kind of look.

Who can name the 3 other parked cars?
