Not a Mopar, old school H.A.M.B. dragster

Here's one of the reason I haven't been working on my convertible lately. The H.A.M.B drags are over in Joplin Missouri this weekend and the car and is there right now.  I didn't get to make the trip out. We put this car together specifically for this show in about 6 weeks. From a talking about it over coffee one Saturday morning to running. I have to admit. Even though it isn't a Mopar it has been a blast helping put this thing together. I sure wish I could have gotten off work to go see it make a pass. Now its time to get back on the convertible.

Wow!  I'm a HAMBer, too, I go by 'el Scotto' on there.  

I wish the HAMB drags would come out west, I'm got a bunch of good parts laying around that would be a good start to HA/GR dragster.

Really old stuff can be fun too!  I found this old girl just rotting away a while back, and think it would be pretty cool in a crazy old rod.

I recognize the old hemi but what is it in???

HA/GRs are really a neat "class" of dragsters.  Has to be a flathead Phord, or a '62 and earlier OHV six cylinder.  Has to run on old-style Bias-Ply tires.

Basically a grass-roots, have fun racing class.

I want to build one with a aluminum block slant six, zoomies, and multiple carbs.

Rabid, you need to just go for it. It has been a blast putting this thing together. It was so cool when we finally fired it up. I have MOPAR blood running in my veins but I have to admit that old flathead sounded pretty cool with those zoomies.

i just left don ross,s shop in garland tx .we loaded up the scorpion 1 and 5 dragsters both 392 hemis headed for joplin .cool cars i went to the ohio reunion last year and saw more hemis than at the nats just unreal. ya all will have a blast cool car .craig

Craig, Those are some very nice slingshot cars.
Just found out the car didn't make it to the show. I am really bummed. All that work by everyone and there is something wrong in the tranny. That's what happens when enough time isn't alloted for working out gremlins. Pretty disappointing but we'll be there next year or maybe somewhere else sooner.
Time to get back to work on the Challenger. Later, Jay

o bummer spreck. in the pics on my site the one with # 5 that has the valve cover off we started it the first time at ohio and the engine siezed never made the cackle fest things just happen i understand bummer .craig

hey sprecks every ones back from joplin ,the 1 car had a hauler problem trans leaks and two  trailer flats and a ticket along the way and the dragster went of the end of the track .the 5 car never left dallas . a series of unfortunate events .craig
