If you don't mind that there'll be a 1/8" ledge all around the ports where the Intake meets the heads, go ahead and put it on. It'll bolt right on and run, but probably like crap. The 318 ports are much smaller than the 340's.

When I bought my Sebring the 318 came with a 72 cast 340 intake. It ran OK.
Now with LD4B in runs much smoother.

IMO Since you already have a 340 intake just put on ,and  if you don't lik it change it.

Trouble is I might have to pay to put it on. I don't have a garage   :pullinghair: and I don't know anyone that can help me localy. I am willing to pay for the correct one if anyone has one for sale but I don't know where to look and I am on a budget. At this point what's another 100 bucks if it works better? What about the Edelbrock intakes? I can get one at cost. Also will that or the edelbrock intake work with A/C (factory of corse)

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

Well the "right one" just sold for $86 on Ebay. Too much??

Why do you need a garage to put an Intake on?  :dunno:  You don't even have to remove the distributor. It's a no-brainer remove it, clean the head surface and install the new one like you took it off job. You DO have to drain the water though, with the smallblocks. And you'll have to take at least one valve cover off too to get it on, so figure on new VC gaskets.

Right now I live in an apartment with a strict code about doing anything to your car. I plan to move in late November to a house which should make it a snap. Oh and I have never done this before so I am worried about doing it my self. I have only worked on flathead fords and that was not much.

Thanks for the ebay link. But I for sure want to go with a 4brl. I already have everything to install including new chrome valve covers so that is no problem!! But I would like to find one of those 4brl intakes if anyone has one or can find one. THANKS!!

A 318 Intake will have ports about .97" wide X 1.95" tall
A 340 Intake will have ports about 1.06" wide X 1.18" tall

Any "tricks" tha work on making a car faster, work on making it more efficient. Plus, the car is a whole, not just an engine. First, the ignition can becurved to give you better performance and milage. Make sure teh choke pulls off properly, and let the car warm up. The worst you can do is repeated cold starts with little warming. Make sure the tires are inflated to the max pressure. Usually 35psi or so. Make sure the kickdown is adjusted properly so it uses the gears. Make sure the air filter is clean, and you'll find a little more power and economy buy flipping the lid upside down. (also makes it a little noisier) There is no reason a multi-use car with stock everythign can't get at least 15mpg in mixed driving. When was the last time you flat footted it on an on ramp and let it run up thru the gears? Old lady driving is hard on a car.

 :iagree:
Those are some great tips I am going to try some things. I noticed that the idle on the car was high and really high when the choke was on. So I adjusted. I also reset the timing (10 degrees before TDC) as I may have said before, and the car is very quiet and smooth running now. Runs good to.  I have been a little heavier on the pedal to work out this tank and start with a clean take to burn to see if there is any improvement. I will report back. I really want to think you guys for your help with this. The car is now running better then ever and I am more and more happy with it MPG or not. So Thank you!!  :worshippy

You may be right. I was told it came off of an 81-3 dodge wagon. It was not a 318 motor so I guess it would have to be a 360. Wow will that be a big problem?

It's never good to dispupt the air and fuel on the way to the cylinder head. Measure the ports in the Intake and see what size they are. I'm betting they are 340/360 sized, or about 1.06" wide X 1.18" tall. I know of no factory 4 bbl Intake ever made for the LA 318 using 318 heads, but I could be wrong.  :clueless:
