duodec,
I was not quite clear on some of the safety tips. BUT, after viewing that ''Youtube'' clip I think I'm starting to get it. I'll be very careful NOT to drop my Starburst in the carb juice...................
You da man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another tip watch where all the little balls go, in our Aussie carb's there are 2 and they are usually different sizes. I have struck a couple that were not round. Strip down the carb, soak, put on good eye protection and wash then blow out and dry, reassemble paying attention to the float level. As said above don't put too much pressure on the needle and seat if it has a neopreen tip, also I put a small smear of thin oil on the accelorator pump plunger before installing.

I did find both the small and large ball. There's plenty to keep track of while taking this thing apart, I'm glad I'm learning on an easy one!!!!!!!!!
I bought a new float, I got the neopreen type. I thought my old brass floats might decide to take on gas one day. For $!2 I feel a little safer................

The instructions that come with the rebuild kit don't say much at all, their only real value is the picture/schematics, that will help more than all the digital pictures I took....
Wish me luck.........................

I found out last night I'll be rebuilding the little two barrel on the 318 in my '73 Satellite, too.  If the auto parts store has the kit in stock, I may rebuild the carb tonight.

Good luck on yours, just be confident, you can do it!!

DONE!!! :woo:
It is a messy little job.  I left the original float in, the parts store gave me the wrong float and the original looked real good. So I didn't have to adjust the float.
I still have a hesitation if I gas it too quick, but it's better than it was. Looks like I need to do some more tuning to get the hesitation to go away......................

My rebuild kit came with a carb to manifold gasket that was less than 1/2 the thickness of the original. I was lucky enough to find a thick one in stock at another parts store :ylsuper:

Hesitation sounds like a timing/vacuum advance problem possibly

It is possible that you need to do a little "tweaking" to the accelerator pump circuit. I would be willing to bet that your throttle shaft is a little loose in the throttle body (base) of the carb. If you can wiggle it in its bore, it is loose, and leaks air there. It doesn't have to be expensive or a death warrant, though- often, small leaks can be covered by the tuning of the carburetor. Increasing the stroke of the accelerator pump will give it more fuel, and might take away a lean condition hesitation that occurs during acceleration. Timing would also cause hesitation during a transition from cruise to power. It would also likely ping under the same conditions. Timing and fuel are where you need to look, though.

a hesitation can also be a low float level , did you at least check it ?

:iagree:  Just putting in a new needle and seat without checking the level it could be very low, was the new needle neoprene tipped or solid and was the old needle either type?   :dunno:

I did not check it the float when I re-installed the old float, I '' assumed '' (don't say it) it would be OK.....................
I did not notice what kind of needle the new one is.
That's why I've got you guys, to help the ignorant rookie along.
I appreciate the help!!!
I'll check it out

The rebuild kit probably came with a little cardboard gauge to measure the float height.

TONS and TONS of very sweet cars!!!!!!!!!!

How do I adjust the float to get rid of the hesitation? Do I adjust the float up or down?

yes , just bend the tab the float is attached to until it is the correct height or a small amount higher
