Stealth Heads

Planning to purchase a set of Stealth Heads from 440 source bolt on out of the box, any comment or suggestions to make before i purchase them? GOOD/BAD ETC ..thxs

Worth the money, have them carefully inspected for retainer issues and the valve job checked. Same as anything else really.

 :iagree:  I got the first run of heads from 440Source.  This is what my engine shop did:
- The keepers were crap and were replaced w/ 10* comp cams keepers & retainers (611-16 & 741-16.)  I've heard that the issues with the keepers have been fixed in the later runs.   
- The push rod holes needed to be enlarged to support 3/8" push rods. 
- Spring pressures were OK to use with a custom Engle K58 grind. 
- Guides were honed and valves lapped.

That's it.  My 451 made 488 HP and 530 ft-lbs of torque on the dyno.

I'd call that good.  Just have your shop do an inspection on them to be on the safe side.

On some heads, yes.  The engine builder is going to have to look at all the parts and do a select fit for any performance build.  Some folks have been successful in using the ROL (forget the #), Felpro 8519-PT or 17059 Marine gaskets.  For my engine, it was the factory chamfer that was causing the fire ring overhang problem and not the heads.  Solved by using MrGasket 3233G (4.500" MLS - made by Cometic.)

You want to be careful about the ring, but i understand that was the first batch of heads...

Thanks folks, all responses grateful, makes my purchase so much easier. some concerns for sure. sounds like a pretty decent heads. cudachallenger ROCKS

I am using the later production run Stealth heads with Hughes rockers and shafts, and different springs, keepers, retainers. Had them fully ported and slapped them on a 543 stroker that made over 600HP on the dyno. I've had no problems with them. Now I need a Dana 60!!

I wouldnt touch stealth heads with a ten foot pole.....  :poopoke: unless you had jeff at MCH do your heads for you... Worst customer service in the world!  :2cents:

Bought the 543-1/2 inch stroker kit too. Heads were $900 bucks with the stroker kit it came in at $3000. Takes another $3000 to start. Oil pan, external oil lines, Msd ignition, rebalancing and checking, valves undercut. Main and head studs, main girdle, swinging oil pump pickup nothing that I can't do at home except the valve undercut. New retainers and springs to match the cam, steel washers for the springs and a good set of roller rockers and shafts and shims. Yah it will take another 3 grand.
