What cutoff tool to use?
« on: August 26, 2008 - 09:09:51 PM »
I was wondering what type of cutoff tool I should be using to cut the panels.  I have a Chicago 4" grinder with a cutoff wheel on it that is great, but I was wondering if I should be using a thinner or smaller diameter disk tool.  Thanks.

I use a 3" on a die grinder. I like it becuase I can see what the heck is going on and the air power can be a little more forgiving at times.

use the 3" cutoff and for tight spots you can use cutoff wheels on your dremel tool but prepare yourself to go through lots of blades

I am currently look at a few die grinders.  I was reading about the review on WestCut discs due to their thin cuts, but I cannot find them anywhere to buy.

I will be using this for the floors pans, quarters, trunk and patches.

Thanks for the tips guys, after thinking about it it makes sense the 3" wheel and grinder would be easier to maneuver.

Should I be looking for one with high CFM?  High RPM?  Thanks a million guys, your helping me to learn.

I have two. One is a straight and use it for die grinding and cut off stuff. I bought it at harbor frieght for $10 works great and has lasted a long time. I also have a 90 deg craftsman that I use for grinding welds down. They both have thier place and wouldn't trade one for other.

I use the 3M Green Corp cut off disks, I think the thinest ones are 1/32" or 1/16".  The cost more, but hold up a long time compared to the cheap ones.

f you are cutting a panel that is open on the backside,, consider a mini  air powered sawzall.  These things work great, cut MUCH faster than a
3" cutoff wheel, and with less heat (NO warpage).  You can use standard  hack saw blades, just cut them to the length you desire.  :2thumbs:
