The rotessire won't fit on the trailer?
« on: August 27, 2008 - 05:51:26 PM »
Alright so off she goes, I am taking the car to the blaster next week, but I have a small problem.  I measured the rotisserie (car is on the rotisserie already) from wheel to wheel and it's 17 feet.  I looked into a U-Haul car trailer, but I do not think it's going to fit.

Has anyone had to transport their car on a rotisserie before and if you had to rent a trailer what did you have to use?  I really do not want to flatbed it if I have to (too expensive).  Any recommendations?  Thanks.

I have moved mine plenty of time and always broke it down. I am way to nervous to move a car across the city while it is mounted to a rotisserie. I set the car flat on the trailer on 2 x 4 under the framerails and put the rotisserie in the back of the pickup. otherwise you are looking at a flatbed to haul it for you. Takes three guys to load the car on and off the trailer. I roll the car out to the trailer, then set the front on jackstands and remove the front half of the rotisserie. Then back the trailer up a little to get the engine bay on the trailer. Then two guys grab the front apron and just walk the car onto the trailer while the third person guides the rear half of the rotisserie attached to the trailer. Once it is on set it down and remove the rear half of the rotisserie. Works best with the rotisseries that have hydraulic jacks built into the ends for adjustments. You could also hang the car from the ceiling of a good shop with four comealongs and just drive under the whole car. if I let a flatbed carry it i would be sure your insurance covers it.

I have also seen rotisseries mounted inside the engine bay. Then you can not rotate it all the way around, but it shortens the wheelbase on the rotisserie by about 4 feet at least.

I am going to have the same problem with my rotisserie for my road runner,it`s homemade with no hydrolic jacks so getting the shell on and off is not so easy.My trailer is only a 16` but I think I can overhang it in the front and back and make it down and back to the blaster without any issues.I`ll use a couple floor jacks to get it back over the front edge of the trailer and it should roll off fron there-we`ll see!  ::)

Here is a roadrunner with a reverse mounted rotisserie.
I measure it and it was 15 feet from wheel to wheel, so I guess it could fit on a 16 foot trailer, but you may have to load it backwards and drive very careful!
