    We didnt need a pic of your old small block engine, you have a 440 in there now.  So take the negative battery cable, the big one, and pull it off the rad support. Then install the end on the engine in a solid location, like a water pump housing bolt hole, anything clean and engine block related. Just like how your other engine had the wire. Then, you need to hook another wire from the negative bat post, over to the rad support where the big one used to be. It should of had some other wires hooked to that same area as well. The headlight ground harness goes there. Do these things then get a correct pos battery cable end from something like the link I sent you, then start the thing up if you hooked the relay back up right...

    I really appreciate all of the advice from all of you. I apologize that this has been a long thread. I did my best to describe my symptoms at the beginning of this thread. I bought this car a little over a year ago. It's my first muscle car. I'm not a mechanic like all of you guys here. I'm learning as i go. I don't know who installed the engine in this car. What's common knowledge (101) in auto mechanics isn't the case with the novice. Since i've had the car i put new bumpers on the front and back myself, changed the rearend ratio, replaced the shifter cable and a couple of other things learning as i go.

    One thing i do not know is electricity. So if something is shorted out after i replace the cables then i screwed if i have to find it. I've been in a terrible mood now for three days because i can't fix my ride and now i feel worse wondering what all of you guys think. But i have followed everyones advice best i can and that in of itself has been a multitude of opinions (which i do appreciate) so i have tried to sort out the common connection between all advice. I'll replace the cables when they come in after i order them later this evening and hope nothing is super screwed now. Thanks everyone

    Just to clear something up. That's not a picture of old-school's small block, it's mine. He asked for a picture of where the negative cable should go.

    It took me 6 months to get my car running right, it was electical. I know the feeling dude....  :walkaway:

    Just remember that you WILL figure it out. retrace your steps of what you have changed..... that way you can try different things and not repeat anything...

    Ok Mr 101 :bigsmile:  But you did understand what was said to you about hooking the neg and pos up right?   If you didnt melt anything, you do have an easy 101 lesson to learn here. You gotta start somewhere. Atleast you are willing to learn, and thats a plus

    Yes i definately understand where the negative cable should ground to. Just keep in mind that after this mess is straightened out, then you guys are going to have to help me wire in a after market tach to put on my steering wheel :roflsmiley:

    No problemo, the tach (if new) will have directions easy enough for the home mechanic. Unless you are color blind.

    Does the whole steering wheel act like one big tach?  Will it shock me to make a turn?

    Will the fact that someone put a MSD ignition in my car create a problem hooking up one of these aftermarket tachs? Will anything else need to be bought?

    What moparal was saying is hook your new tach to your colum or dash not the wheel... LOL...  :poopoke:

    That’s an easy one there is a  male spade connector  with a black ring around it on one end  were the tach ‘s signal wire hooks to with a female spade connector.

    Well my brand new set of mopar cables came yesterday evening. Both neg and pos cables. I put them on and yes they are on right. I even sanded the orange paint on the block where the ground cable was bolted to. The smaller ground wire was attached to the radiator structure where it's supposed to go. Positive cable is hooked up correctly as well at the relay as well as the starter.

    I turned the key and the starter gave a half crank and the relay just started to rapidly click. I tried jumper cables with another vehicle running and it just did the same thing, a slight turn of the starter and then clicking so i know it's not my battery? Right? This morning it doesn't even move the starter at all just clicks like crazy. At least it clicks now, it didn't even do that before i put the new cables on. What now guys?

    If you had the same problem I had...Just reach down with a large screwdriver/small hammer, and give the starter a wack or two. Then it should turn again for you. I eventually replaced my starter because I knew this beating with a hammer technique would only work for so long.   :grinyes:
