    Did any T/A's have the antenna in the front fender?

    I was wondering if any T/A's made it out of the factory with a mast in the front fender instead of the rear quarter? Barry do you know by any chance?

    The only ones I know of were actually built with no radio.

    The dealerships could add "extras" at the buyers request, when this happened with the T/As, the dealerships normally added the antenna to the front fender.

    I do not know of any T/As that actually left the factory with a front aerial.

    But that would be pointless to install it in the front if there was at least one on it already.  That's a good question, why are you asking.

    I was just wondering because that Challenger I found last year had T/A stripes on it but they were very very old and crapped out like the blue paint. I checked it out last weekend and took a closer look. It is definitely a 70, has a T/A hood and as stated before, the original looking paint with old stripes. I am sure it is a clone but the condition of the stripe trips me out, it looks oem. Of course there is an antenna on the front fender though. Would the radio delete T/A's still have a hole in the quarter with a plug or something because this one looked like a regular quarter panel with nothing where a mast would be.

    On a similar note, I heard the front fenders wheel openings were wider for the tires. However, that might be another urban legend. :dunno:

    No vin # on the car? That should tell you pretty quick if its there.   :2thumbs:

    Techically, there is no such thing as "radio delete" on these cars. Radios were an option, it it came with one, it was coded.

    If it did not come with one, no code.

    Saying "no radio" or "radio not ordered" would be more correct.  ;)

    Cars with no radio simply had no antenna hole at all. There was no fender / quarter plug.

    On the fender thing, I measured T/A fenders, a Hemi fenders, 318 fenders, fenders from 1970 & 1971, fenders from the LA plant and Hamtramck plant and I did find some minute differences. Nothing that would be T/A or Hemi or 15" tire specific, there was no rhyme or reason to it at all.

    Last year I asked the lady if it was for sale and she said no because it was her dads and he died. I did not ask to look up close and this year I did not bug them at all. I almost inquired about it but did not want to make a nuisance of myself. Everything I saw from the car was from the alley. Hard to even see it at all, that is why I missed the T/A hood last year. I have its location engrained and at some point I will try to make contact with the people again. Would love to get a quick peak at the vin. I am pretty sure its not a T/A but now I know that it has a slight possibility.

      Here in Australia back in the late 60's and early 70's a lot of cars came out of the factory without radio's and they were installed at the dealers. The dealer had the pre-delivery people drill the holes for the aerials, there was a bit of difference where they were placed.

    While I agree that checking the numbers is the only way to know for sure, there are a few things that are a part of most Challengers that weren't part of the T/A package that tip off clones. The radio antenna is one, wheel lip moldings is another, chrome mirrors of any kind are a third. Does it have either of those?

     :iagree:  Also from the outside, does it have the side exhaust?  Does it have a smooth rear valence without the cutouts?

    If the lady lets you take a peek at the VIN, ask to check under the hood for a 340 Six Pack!

    Did not think about the exhaust tips and the way it is sitting I dont know if I can see the rear valance but it did have the tail. I will have to take a trip soon and try to check it out more thoroughly.

    so the so called 15" fenders are apparently an urban myth? i guess thats why i"ve seen no mention of them since i've been here.

    I just read somewhere that the Challenger T/As did not "come" with a transmission, either. There was a charge for either transmission.

    True, T/As required either the 4-speed manual or the automatic, both of which were extra cost on the base Challenger.
