    I wanted to share with all of you a different kind of converter failure that came into the shop today. Sport Fury,Indy Cylinder Heads engine in it,one of my transmissions (sponsored car) It runs 9.40's in the 1/4 mile.

    Here is a pic of the car.


    Here is what happened when the converter starter ring gear came off in second gear! (Dynamic Converter)

    HOLY SH CRAP! I can clearly see the teeth of the gear in the header.  Did the car run a trans blanket? Isn't that required after a certain et?
    BTW when the gear blew, did it damage the motor too?  Just curious.

    Yes,they have a carbon fiber shield on the trans,destroyed the starter,header,transmission and that's it,did not hurt the engine.

    Luckily,most of the pieces went down to the pavement. He said it made a groove one inch deep and 2 feet long in the pavement!

    So when the ring gear blew, it seperated the trans from the engine causing the trans to drop down andand dig into the pavement?  I was wondering if the trans stayed bolted to the block because it looks like it was sheared.

    Yes,the trans stayed bolted to the block by the one passenger side bell housing bolt and the carbon fiber shield had it "cradled"



    The converter ring gear actually come out and dug into the pavement. This is a close pic of what it looked like before the explosion.

    I have that same tranny shield... well worth the 300 bucks.....   :working:

    Well the tranny was painted a sweet color, too bad it's all scratched up now.  Glad everyone was ok.

      Did this car get the extended warranty or just the normal 12/12?   :stirpot:   :bigsmile:
      Glad to hear that nobody got hurt, safety shields are there for good reason.   :2thumbs:
