Junkyard Finds in California East Bay Area!
« on: September 02, 2008 - 01:30:36 PM »
It was half price day at the Pick-n-Pull and Pick-A-Part where I'm at, so on Labor Day I grabbed a Mopar buddy and went hit the East Bay yards.

First yard we hit, Dorris Auto Wreckers, had a fairly complete '68 Barracuda.  It was missing the dash and grill when I was there.  I almost grabbed the hood, but I didn't need it, so I left it on the car.  They told $150 at the front would have taken it.  It had the dual bumps with chrome badges on it, not sure if that was on every '68 Barracuda or not.

We drove down the same road that Dorris is on, looking for other yards that were open and a few yards down through the front gate I saw a Plum Crazy nose sticking out.  We flipped a u turn, and parked out front.

Sure enough, it was a 1970 'Cuda, 440 automatic that had been in a major fire.  You could still see the remmenants of melted plastic and burned metal, but someone was putting this one back together.  New dash pad, windshield, etc.  It had been pretty badly burned, I don't know how well the car's structural integretity would be.

Right next to the 'Cuda under a cover was a real Shelby Mustang, about a 1969, with lots of body damage.  I didn't get to look too much, because it was under a cover.

A few cars over from that pair was a 1970 Challenger.  Original 318 car, but complete and in decent condition other than needing a paint job.

Couldn't believe I found them.  I didn't take any pictures, I didn't have my camera with me, I just wasn't expecting to find anything like this.  Incredible.

I am quite sure you cant buy whole cars from a pick apart. Too many issues involved. Sounds like some super parts deals for 50% off :2thumbs:

I am not sure about the Pick-a-Part, but I have seen it listed at a local Pull-a-Part where you can buy a whole car, so maybe.

The E-bodies were at a Mom & Pop type auto wreckers, with a little Mexican dude who said "no sale, come back on Saturday or Sunday talk to owner".  No one else there to ask, really.

Only thing I bought a pair of 15" Mopar steel wheels with tires, I thought they were a matched pair when I bought them for $27, but when I got home looks like one is 15x7 and the other is 15x6 or 15x6.5.  I haven't measured to find out yet, once I noticed that I just got frustrated that I'm a total dumb-ass, and haven't gone back to look at them.  They looked the same and came of the same vehicle, but closer inspection revealed otherwise.  I guess I need to go find one that matches one of them, or two that match 'em.  Arggh!!!   :pullinghair:

I actually talked to the owner by phone earlier this year. He had it on craigslist. He brought it over from Hawaii. Someone posted a thread about it and one night I decided to call him. Anybody remember?...that thread about the burned Cuda on Craiglist at 17K I think it was.
