Manual Steering Box
« on: September 03, 2008 - 08:57:08 PM »
I have a 73 challenger and the steering is pretty lose.  I adjusted it but it just loosened itself up again.  I would like to put a regular manual steering box back into it but I am having a hard time finding one.  I would like to find a reman.  Year One has a service to rebuild the original one but im not sure if  ???thats the way to go.  Any advice? ???

Thanks,
Lane

I got one off of ebay, but doing that there's no guarantee you'll end up with a better steering box. You could also get a new worm gear, Moparts sells a 20:1 gear for $255. Also, you may want to check and see if its not the pitman or idler arm that needs replacing.

I tried the Flaming River, and Summit shipped it for free.

The guys at FF are great to deal with. A little expensive but they know Chrysler's. IMO

I haven't worked with them yet, but I am planning on ordering one of their fast ratio manual boxes for my A66 Challenger.

if you have powersteering the loose feel is normal. You can get a firm feel box either from Firm Feel or Steer and gear. Steer and geer is  cheaper than firm feel. I called both places today because I need to replace my leaking gear box
