Wich factory brake options on challenger r/t 440?
« on: September 04, 2008 - 12:01:47 PM »
So has factory build a challenger with 440 engine and drum brakes? or 426 hemi with drum brakes?

Point is, have to have document about wich brakes, rear axle, swaybars, torsionbars, challengers were built with different engines. Diameters.

My car is r/t challenger with 383hp, 8,75 rear and drum brakes. I want to swap in 440 engine and engineers here in Finland wants to know is 440 car build ever with same parts. If there is not 440 build with drum brakes, he wants me to have disk brakes and so on.

So is there a book available wich can solve these things for me? It has to be book or program wich I can take a copy for him.  :banghead:

Example:
8,75 rear axle was used in 383 440 and 426hemi cars.
Example2:
0,88 torsion bars was used in 383 440 cars but 426hemi had 0,92 torsion bars.

I´ll be grateful if someone could help me out here.

Pena

Hemi & 440 car were built with either 11x3" drum front brakes & 11x2.5 , 383 R/Ts ahd the same system
or 10.7" disc brakes with the 11x2.5" or 10 x 2.5" rear drums
 R/T had .92 T bars

Those are the things I need to see on book etc.

Even if I know that and engineer knows that, I still need document. Sounds stupid, but thats the way it goes in Finland.
I have not asked from local chrysler dealer, but I think they do not have that old material anymore.

I have few muscle mopar books but there finds no answer, just have to seek.

Thank you Chryco

Moparpena, I have some books in my library that could help you, if you can locate them for your library. The first three titles may be out of print, but I include them in hopes that you might find them out there. The first two are from Brooklands Books, showing an address of: Brooklands Books Distribution Ltd., 'Holmerise', Seven Hills Road, Cobham, Surrey KT11 1 ES, England. "MOPAR Muscle Cars 1968-1971," contains exactly what you need for information, from actual road tests of factory cars in 1969 and 1970. It also has an imprint from Motorbooks International, Osceola, Wisconsin 54020, USA. "Plymouth Muscle Cars 1966-1971" is the same type of book, and also contains some road tests of the 1970 'Cuda, with specifications. Both of these were published in the mid- to late-80's, but contain no copyright or publication date data. The first book is ISBN 0 946489 50 5, and the second is ISBN 0 946 489 05X, according to the back covers. The third title I recommend for you is called, "Mighty MOPARS 1960-1974," written by Anthony Young. This one is ISBN 0-87938-124-8, and carries a copyright date of 1984. This one is imprinted as being published by Motorbooks International, and was out of print the last time I looked for a new copy to replace mine (mine is pretty beat up). It contains some factual errors, but none in the suspension or brake information, as I recall. Book number four is still in print, published by Hemmings Motor News. It is called, "The Hemmings Motor News Book of Chrysler Performance Cars," and contains a road test of a 1970 'Cuda, with technical specs on the various models cited. This might suit your purpose, but I would strongly recommend one of the others first, if available. The copyright of this book is 2000, and it is ISBN 0-917808-39-8. Hemmings has a website, www.hemmings.com, where this volume can be ordered. Good luck, and I am sorry that bureaucrats had to mess up your day like this.
