I recently sold a 1981 Trans-Am decal-delete car not too long ago, and even though it didn't have the screaming eagle and other stickers, it doesn't mean it wasn't a real Trans-Am. It was as much Trans-Am correct as the others.
Most likely, it was possible to order the M46 optioned car with a rally hood if a buyer saw an M46 car on a lot and wanted the M46 car with a rally hood. To be quite honest, if Barry or a couple of the other respected guys on this site haven't found more information on these M46 cars, it's pretty safe to say that most of what this guy here has to say is more 'hear-say' from some other folks that may or may not know what they are talking about. The truth is...this site and Moparts pretty much cover the areas where most Mopar 'gurus' and/or historians hang out, and if it cannot be found on one of these two sites, you aren't going to find it very easily. Your only other chance is to find someone who worked as a factory worker in 1970 assembling these things. That could be tough because most of them: 1) are old and couldn't care about surfing the internet; 2) worked on these things - not out of love for what they were building - but to pay the bills. Some of them probably want to vomit when thinking about people like us thinking so highly of them; 3) are already six feet under. i mean no offense to those still living who worked at a plant in '70!
However, these cars are almost 40 years old, and not everyone assembling them were twenty- or thirty-somethings.
Another thing - as Ken and Josh and a couple more people know, I really like these M46 cars and have come very close to buying one (and still might!) - but, if this guy is sandbagging information for a car that he cannot even get $5000 for, then who is really losing out here? I wouldn't believe a word this guy has to say about the M46 Barracuda. Just observe the bones that Barry and the other knowledgeable guys throw our way once in a while.
Also, I will try to gather the info off the M46 car here that may give you a little more information about them.
