Schumacher engine mounts; feedback wanted
« on: September 05, 2008 - 08:41:12 PM »
I've seen the Schumacher engine conversion mounts at Carlisle before.

I'm wondering...is there much engine vibration transferred into the body? They appear not to have much in the way of rubber insulation. Almost to the point like they're solid engine mounts.

Have you been happy with them? At idle; let's say at a stoplight, do you feel much vibration?
If you had to do it all over, would you of gone to the trouble of converting the K member over to original structure? For better comfort and smoothness?

Anyone in Nor Cal who has them; I would really like to experience riding in your car with them installed.

Hey TC check this out, they sell the brackets to weld in yourself for $175 or for about $750 you can get a done k member from them. Don't have much experience with the hemi conversion kits but I have used their big block kit into an a body with great success.

I've bought their std mounts.  They perform just like stock mounts.  I also bought the Mancini Magnum mounts.  There might be a touch more vibration as I have a few more rattles in one rear panel that is not properly secured due to crappy aftermarket fit.

John, I called them a few months back. They won't sell the plates that are welded onto the K member by themselves. The parts they show, go between the block and the insulators.

I have not felt any really noticable differences in them other than they cannot pull apart & they do fit well

I've had two cars with schumacher hemi conversion mounts. They did not transfer any more vibration to the chassis than standard engine mounts. I did have to rework the dipstick on the 71 hemicuda slightly to clear the mount. I will say that with a keisler 5 speed and schumachers, the engine/trans sat too far down in the back. I believe this was more a factor of the keisler trans mount than the schumacher mounts.

use the Milodon flexable dipstick tube , it is the best way to solve the issue

I looked at the Schumacher mounts, but decided to try the Dynatech mounts offered by 440 Source.  They're a little cheaper than the Schumacher mounts and have a lifetime warranty.

The Hemi Schumacher conversion mounts are creating an issue for the Shaker bubble to sit inside correctly.
About half inch too high.

Dave who lives nearby brought over his 440 6 Cuda today.
We transferred his shaker onto my car to see how it would sit.

Obviously, way too high!   :banghead:

Pretty soon I will be buying the bubble.
It'll have to be modified in order for it to sit inside without rubbing.

Use 1/2" spacers at the four K frame mounting bolts... I've seen the K member spaced down 1" without any problems so 1/2" wouldn't worry me a bit...

There's hope for the Hemi Shaker setup using Schumacher mounts.

They sent me new engine mount pads that are offset 1/2" so the engine will sit lower.

Putting washers in between the K frame would look hokey.

I wasn't suggesting washers, typically it's done with machined steel blocks that match the frame & K-member dimensions.. Make em black & they are practically invisible.. But it sounds like Schumacher took good care of you so thats excellent...
