Detailing Question
« on: September 06, 2008 - 10:08:08 PM »
I need to get a good coat of wax on my car and wondered about the vinyl stripes and hood blackout.  Should you avoid getting wax on these areas or just wax away? Thanks.

I didn't wax the stripes on mine.  Patience is key when doing this.LOL

Actually, you can wax stripes.  The only thing you have to be careful is to NOT wax things that are flat or semi flat black as it will leave a white chalky type film on it.

Certain waxes don't dry to a white haze, so you can wax your gloss stripes without any problem. If you do use a wax that dries white, you'll need to use your finger nail when wiping the wax off around the edges of the stripes. That's what I do.   :eek4:

Thanks for the input.   :2thumbs: Mine are flat black so I'll try to avoid the areas just to be safe.

Or you can use a detail trick that I found, try putting blue painters tape on the stripe to prevent the wax from getting onto it, then peel the tape off.  No mess, no wax on unwanted parts.

MEK didn't I tell you the trick about using a soft tooth brush? Did it work?
Besides, what would you do if you just cut your fingernails?

I didn't use the tooth brush.  :banghead:

Let me tell you, I did one fine job, but I had some sore fingers after I was done.   :faint:
