Nice kill on C6 Vette
« on: September 06, 2008 - 11:37:34 PM »
I'm another person who is against street racing but this guy had it coming to him. My wife and I were on our way back from dinner and an evening cruise. As I was pulling up the off ramp from the freeway to my home I noticed some head lights flying up behind me. As I was came to the stop sign I started hearing the guy behind me reving his car up like he was tring to blow it up. Low-n-behold its a new C6 Vette. My first reaction is to ignore him and continue on my way especially with my wife in the car. As I pull away the Vette literally pushes his nose within inches of my bumper. At this point I've had enough, told my wife to hold on and nailed it. As I looked in the rear view mirror I could watch the distance between our cars fade apart!! As I appoached the next light he comes flying back up on my bumper. Again as we pull away I nailed it and put some distance between us. I notice that he hit the brakes hard and pulls into a gas station so I u-turn to see whats up. When I come up beside them I can still see a shocked look on their faces. I tell them that they have a nice car and what did they have done to it. The guy(s) tells me that it has a Procharger on it but its not running right. They go on to tell me how suprised they were when I punched the gas pedal that they were not expecting my Cuda to get off that hard. He also made a comment about my Drag Radials and I reply by telling him I ride prepared! It had all the markings of a ZO6 but I have to believe it was a stock vette with exhaust and a supercharger. I never asked but I have a hard time believeing that I would pull on a supercharged Z06. Either way I was happy to have put his ego back in check!!! :woohoo:

Nice kill   :grinyes:  I've been hoping for a shot at a new Z06. Just a few Mustangs (One a newer Cobra), some ricers and my buddies high 12 second Dart so far. He did get raped by a Z06 from a roll (the owner didn't want to race for a dig cause he was afraid of breakin his rear.. :-\) and said I beat him much worse, so I'm looking forward to that when it comes.

So you like your tires? What size are you using??

I'm running M/T drag radials 275/60/15. I love em! From a slow roll they hook and go which was a big plus last night. :icon16:

I think most people see it that way. I honestly think these guys thought I was a joke at first. I have several friends that have Vettes but the owner of this one seem like a typical Corvette owner, very cocky and full of excuses. I had to make sure he knew I was all muscle cause he made the assumption I had gas on the car. I made him feel even worse by telling him it was a "stock" 340 with just heads and cam. I forgot to mention the extra 76 cu in of displacement amoung other things! :grinno: :naughty: Like I said before I think it was just a base vette made to look like a Z06. A Z06 with any kind of supercharger should be a solid mid 10 second car at around 130mph plus in the quartermile. A standard Vette w/ a Procharger would make more since. It was also good that we got to hit it off from a very low roll as I am pretty sure he could have strolled on me from a highway roll. Anyways I was very pleased!! :cooldancing:

Cool story,
Thanks for sharing it. I get ricers all the time roll up next to the Challenger at a stop light and start revving the engine and looking over to me for a nod. I'm not into street racing as I've lost my license a time or two due to my own stupidity, but I'm not beyond showing a punk what a muscle car can do given the right circumstances. I usually look over at them while they are revving their engine and do a big yawn and then drive off!! You can usually smell smoke and it ain't coming from the tires!!! :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:

My wife was cool with it just because the Vette guy was egging it on so bad. I asked her afterwards what she thought and she said it was funny to see how embarrased the Vette owner was. Even she could tell! :burnout:

Sweet, the stock Z06's are trapping like 120mph + in the 1/4.  Nice kill!

:iagree:  7.20 in the 1/8 is a mid to low 11 second in the 1/4, and the Z06 only does high 11's at best (if the rear don't break...)

Like I posted earlier I think this was a standard C6 done up to look like a Z06. The car had the "lambo" door thing done to it if that gives you an idea of what we are dealing with. I am very in tune with the late model sceen (I own a performance shop) and know that a well driven Z06 with a blower should have pulled on me pretty easily espeacially by the time I got to the top of second gear. My car averages around 95 mph in the eight mile which is probably around 120 in the quarter. Thats good enough to handle a stock ZO6 given the fact that my car leaves like a bat out of hell on the street. If it was infact a procharged Z06 maybe the guy couldnt drive worth a $hit or it was not running right like the guy told me (however that seems like the same excuse they always give after getting torched! :poopoke:). On the other hand if it was a standard 430hp vette with just a 5lbs kit (like he said it was set up) then I feel what happened to him was more justifiable. All the same I'm still grinning ear to ear two days latter!! :grinyes:

BTW Let me throw some gas on the Cuda (which I'm going to do as soon as I upgrade the fuel system) and I wont have to worry about either one!!! :naughty:

I'd expect your car to do 11.30's at around 120~ in the 1/4 if you're carding 7.80's in the 1/8. EZ 10's with just a little hose in just 2nd and 3rd.

Nice Kill.  Is your car a stalled auto or a 4 speed?

Stock C6 Z06s are pretty bad machines though.  A guy on one of the corvette forums got a 10.85 out of his car with only drag radials.  I think he had over a 100 passes in the car before he got that number but still.  High tens out of a street car that was really designed for handling is amazing.
