for future refference,there is clear texture coating ,also why didn't you use a good coat of primer before spraying white? if you are still having hard time covering with white,let me know

Interesting method for retextuing the door panels. I have to ask, what material did you use to fill in scratches (and/or the seams where you made the repair in the corner)?

What was the brand that you went with for coloring your panels? And what was the colr name? They look great, I want to get some of the same and paint my panels as well.

Thanks! The only clear "texture" coating I'm aware of (and I called 3 supply houses) is a chip-gaurd for lower panels - I was going to use this, but the texture is too smooth for what I wanted. The reason I didn't use a primer on plastic is that you're supposed to use an adhesion promotor that softens the initial substrate instead. Adding another layer would also be another color and material. SEM recommends spraying your topcoat over the original material, regardless of color - although I know what you mean and that's what I would have done on a bumper repair - so I don't know!!

After using the SEM "Crest" white, the Krylon Sail-White covered well - so back to using a primer...I guess I did...

I used a two-part flex bumper repair material (and a little 2-part final filler for the finer scratches...sshh!!). The "problem" with this method is finding the right texture....nothing matches the original exactly. The clear texture mentioned in the last post was too smooth (IMO) and a truck box texture I found was too "sharp". I tried SEM's texture, which laid down like flat black paint...and then Sur-Tex, which was closest, but still not exact. The best thing I guess would be to spend $600.00 on new panels...I spent nearly 150.00 in materials - and maybe 30-40 hours....so it's anyones call.

Thanks for the info! The putty I used on mine has begun to crack, so the flexible bumper repair material sounds like the ticket! My panels are too good to toss (just a few scratches), and a weird color (blue), so this just might be the answer for me.

Hey Guys, haven't posted an update in a while, so thought I'd do so now. Just buttoning up a few undercarriage detaisl (tank, lines) before repalcing the mill! Stayed with the original 14" rims becuase they wanted 900.00 to transfer my rings to 15" bells....shod them with 215/60's BFG's.









Won't be long now!!!  Crusin' this summer!!   Thanks for looking!!

Your doing excellent work.  Nice attention to detail.  Is the outside W1 white?   The color white is timeless, it will be in-style throughout generations.   
The interior turned out real well.  Good to see you stuck with the upholstery problems to correct the flaws, and thanks for posting all the pics of detail work.
Had to laugh about the 240Z.  I was a factory trained Datsun mechanic back when the 260z was on the showroom floors.  They are a fun car, and I assume alot cheaper to build than a Challenger.
My Challenger will be a true driver.  I see your sort-of just north of Montana.  Give me a year, and when I get the challenger running I could travel your way to share stories.  I'm also hoping to drive the dodge to Alaska to visit a friend who has a '66 GTO thats the 9th one built that year!

Yes, it's W1 White. I found it a little grey when it was going on - it's not the "brightest" white for sure. But it looks OK with black accents. Where are you? We're actually just North of N. Dakota. Closest is Minot.
