Spent the weekend getting some of the odds and ends done. Being near X-mas, I had to get some kids stuff done too (like building a skating rink in the yard...). After getting some plastic repair tips from Len, I started the repairs on the door panels and also cut the carpet to fit. Next weekend I'll be able to finish both hopefully!!

The worst spot was cracked and missing a portion of the edge.

Made a pattern to cut a piece from the inside of the panel to fit on the edge.

Repaired the crack by epoxying in metal strips for extra strength...Not pretty but it'll definitely hold!

Next I'll smooth it all out with lightweight filler and texture it before paint.

I'd weld the broken pieces with plastic welder or soldering gun and then use two part plastic repair to finish

:clapping: lookin great!! how painful was the cadmium process? I always thought i would hate misting green and purple over that shiny gold..... so i opted for a $5 can of gold spray paint, but i may redo it all with this system when i repaint..  :chatting:

The cadmium "process" was a bit of a joke really - although it looks somewhat presentable after some work. The Eastwood directions say to spray it all with Gold Cad first, which is pretty close to basic gold paint. When I did that, it was too gold for me - because when you look at Cad plated items they aren't purely gold. So I sanded it down and sprayed it Silver first. After the silver I sprayed the gold again, but only to just barely cover. Once the gold is dry (4+hrs) you mist the Red and Green cad paints here and there...you can try several different times and it'll never look like you think it should! Then for some reason there's an option to spray clear or not, but again, cad plated items are shiny. So I sprayed clear on - but the first time it wrinkled the cad paint. So after drying I sanded it down and did it all again. Did I have enough paint - oh ya, a can of Gold Cad would do 20 or more units and the Red and Green cads are good for a few hundred I'm sure - you only mist...now I have to either find other things I want to spray Red and Green see-though Cad paint, or offer the service to other restorers!  I'll post some pics of the finished product soon.

Looks good. I had the same issues with the cad plate. I like most eastwood products but the cad is kinda weak.
How did the dash cap turn out? I've been thinking of doing the wifes challenger dash.
