I assume the grommet around the check valve

No pics sorry.  Its actually more of a grommet (rather than a gasket) that the check valve inserts into.  I picked up a new check valve from Auto Zone, but it was from the "Help" section and was a generic one.  I looked at the valve and saw no way that it would replace the one that I have, but what happened when I pulled my valve was that the grommet that was there before was cracked and was not as soft as it should be.  The new kit did have several replacement grommets and was was a direct match.  I simply used that one put the check valve back in and started up the car.  I had my fingers crossed the whole time, but after the engine started up the pedal stiffened up quickly.

Its almost as bad as when they put a pool table in the break room.  You get a little bit of everything when playing a game.  You hear everything from "get your balls out of my way" to "get your hands of my stick".
