I wasnt tracking it until I saw the pic with the orange Challenger.  But it looks like two different styles of fenders for sure.

This is both interesting and confusing at the same time.

OK. My understanding is that only the Hemi needed a "Hemi fender" because of the weight of the hemi diving the front suspension too much under heavy braking and catching the tyres.

I thought the T/A had a different part number fender because it didn't have a front mounted antenna. That is probably wrong but I couldn't see any other difference when I looked at one.

So how many fenders are there for 70-71 Challengers and why? Or was there just a design change at some point?

From the January 1972 parts catalog for Challenger:

3419878-9          1970, except F60x15" tires
3579380-1          1970, with F60-15" tires
3579380-1          1971, with F60-15" tires
3579624-5          Trans. Am, w/F60x14 tires

Thats verbatim out of the catalog.  I know when I bought my fender from them in 1980 we were not sure which part number to order (1971 Challenger, non-R/T, 14" wheels, NOT a TransAm).

Barracudas have six different part number pairs; two for 1970 (depending on F60-15 tires), and four for 1971 (BH and BP, split between F60-15" tires and other)  (BS, split between F60-15" tires, and other)

Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. It should go for more than a regular fender obviously. Prices are all over the place with this economy. Something this rare should be relatively stable in value. I would place it above a reproduction Goodmark fender in value.

Goodmark for mopars is over priced. I cant believe the difference in mopar chevy ford.  Mopar people always pay out the butt for stuff. I hear the mold costs and stuff, but they dont have to get it all at once. Any repop mopar part is crazy.   

But I do agree that fender should be worth more

I think it is so cool, that after 40 years, we are still discovering things that we were unaware of. And we still dont have a for-sure answer.

Galen does not want to answer these type of questions. For him they are trade secrets and they help him to determine what is original or what is not on a car.

Well that's dumb...someone told him for one thing, and helping to protect you from being a potential victim is another.  Wonder what level you have to be at to know a trade secrete.   I wanna be a secrete agent man.

Still, its amazing to me. I cant believe they tooled a whole different set of fenders just to go with an option package. Youd never catch them doing that today.

BTW, has anyone checked to see if there were different quarter panels made as well?
