Gas Price Ripoff.... Ike Hasn't hit yet
« on: September 12, 2008 - 10:33:46 PM »
Last night my wife told me that our son had received a text message warning that gas would be upwards of $5.00 today....I laughed, checked the Internet & found oil was at a 5-month low.... Got a text from her a little while ago that the Chevron she filled up with Premium yesterday @ $3.99 was now $4.75... I went on a reconnaissance run & found regular as high as $4.69 & Premium $4.99.... I slid into an out of the way station that ended up being out of regular but had their Plus @ $4.14..wouldn't you know my low gas light came on just this morning  ::)
I think reg. was in the mid 3s a week ago.

Isn't there laws against price gouging during disasters?..  :villagers: ..Hope our state attorney general will look into this.

I heard wholesale was up to $5.00/ gallon two days ago. Well before the storm even hit land. It's all about the speculators. Now they watch the weatherchannel to hedge their bets. I really have problems with them (the Gov.) allowing these things to happen. Capitolism, free enterprise, is one thing but, this is just not right.

If you can don't buy fuel for a week or so. Prices should eventually go back to normal levels.

Appears to be a minor panic...local news reported that the east side of town that's separated by our "mountain", where the newest high end developments are, is out.

Problem was I was getting close to E, daughter was below 1/4 & my son has to drive 200 miles Sunday back to college, so I sucked my share from the pool, probably cost an extra 12-$15 vs a couple of days ago

I got gas here in Fl tonight. It went up 10 cents a gallon while I was in line. There was not a new tanker delivering new more expensive fuel. The gas station owner was just padding 10 cents a gallon. I went to another station and it was the same story. I filled up at 3.79 before it went up again. I was pissed. It is very wrong for them to be allowed to do this. Gas is a neccesity. They are stealing from us when they raise prices just because they can.

This thought may not be politically correct, but is an opinion offered. It may be correct? or it may be wrong? It is not designed to appease those needing shelter from the real world.

What you are saying is true. My complaint is that companies take advantage of this and raise the prices prematurely to pocket extra profit. Last night the price of the fuel that was in the stations tank was going up every 10 minutes. That fuel was purchased wholesale at one price and should remain at the same retail price until it is gone. When a tanker refills the tanks of the station then the price should go up due to a shortage. When it goes up ahead of time there is a huge profit that occurs in the form of price gouging. Unfortunatly, this would be very hard to regulate.

The problem here isn't so much as those evil oil people in office right now, it is the speculators doing this on Wall Street not the tycoons down in H-town.
Guess who Wall Street is backing? The "Change" fella.
The "you know who" led congress is more to blame than the POTUS for allowing these speculators to hike the gas prices. The POTUS office actually holds little power to control the economy. He has veto and approval power. If the Congress would have sent a bill through limiting the speculators and he vetoed it then yes, he could be blamed. The bill was never drafted.
The oil companies can't always be blamed for the price you are paying at the pump Clown.
