    It seems everyone has a story from the late 70's up through the mid 80's when you could get a great mopar for several K. Knowing what you know now about their value and what kind of return they would net you, how would you life have changed had you bit the bullet and dropped 9K on a 71 Hemi Cuda in the early 80's?
    I dont have a first hand account seeings how I was a kid, for my dad though. I know he passed up on two gems throughout the 80's.

    The main reason I ask is because a guy (counterfit I think was his name) was talking about over in the restoration section about passing up on a 71 convertable Cuda because the seller was asking $1500 vs. the 600 for a 73 coupe. What kind of hole would that extra 900 put him in at that time, and would it be worth it in his eyes?

    For me, I would not have gotten my 4 wheeler when I was 8, my little sister would not have gotten this little play kitchen set and my mom would not have gotten Chysler Mini Van.

    Personally, Id rather have a 71 BB 4speed Chally to inherit ;)

    1994/5, 70 hemi cuda, 13,000miles, 2 owner, 47-48k. Couldn't justify the cost!  :roflsmiley:
    car ended up going in 97 for 80, then was flipped again for 120! :roflsmiley:
    should have could have, but it was the amount! could not justify it! It was a car! :(

    1975 - my first Vette, a 1961, driver quality, blown engine, $2,100....had an engine built for $700. and sold the car for $4,100

    1976 - 1962 Vette, fresh resto, near perfect, $4,800.

    1980 - my first Daytona cost $9K..perfect original 10mile car...all my buddies thought I was nuts...

    1985 - my first Challenger T/A cost $4,900....34K mile near perfect Go-Mango 4 spd

    1988 - my first HEMI car, 70 HEMI Challenger RT/SE (first HEMI Challenger ever built), $48K

    I kick myself every time I think about this.  I passed up a rare hemi cuda.  I did not like the color.  Gas prices were outragous at the time and I knew I could not get insurance on it.  It was a panther pink car.  Rubber bumpers and all.  It was pink inside and out and it ran and could have drove it home.  It had baby moon hubcaps on it.  The time was 1974 or 1975.  I could have drove it home for $1500.00  Just wish now that I would have done that and parked it somewhere until now.  Just makes me sick to think about it all of the cars I had or passed up.  I guess I was privaliged in several ways to have owned so many of them.

    Man this hurts when I think of the deals I've pased up on and the ones I almost gave away to sell. Like you said if we would have only known. Although the best one was done by my cousin in the mid 70's. He still shakes his head over this one. When the gas shortages were just starting he traided his plum crazy AAR 4 spd even for a Datson pickup. He thought he got a great deal................ now he just shakes his head.

    Daytona,.. 48K for a Hemi in the late 80's? WOW, I never would have guessed.
    Do you still have it? The first Hemi Chally would be a great catch.

    When I was about 14 (about 11 years ago) I was at a classic car showroom with my Dad and they had a 67 Charger that had a numbers matching 426 hemi and a 4 speed. My Dad and I thought about buying for me for my first car because it was $6000. The car wasn't perfect but was in good driver condition. I decided I didn't want it because to me at the time the car was ugly and I wasn't real familiar with Mopar's at the time. I kick myself to this day for not buying that car. Oh well, maybe next time.

    I sold my 70 Challenger RT/SE 440 six pack in 1982. I got a whopping $1200 a thought I got a deal. Sure wish I had that one back.

    I very clearly remember the Hemi Orange Daytona parked on a used car lot in the early 80's. I passed it every day going to/from my home. I'm thinking 1982. It was around 10K and I was single and working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an apprentice making about $5.00 bucks/hour. I was driving a '73 Barracuda at the time and looked really hard at buying the Daytona which I think had about 30,000 miles. I wanted it, but couldn't get financing. :crying: :crying: But you gotta figure a decent house was about 50K then!!  :22yikes: I ended up having my Barracuda painted instead!!  :2thumbs:

    Awwww, you would have to bring up this topic.

    Bought my Barracuda in 1970 for $4441.  Quite nicely equipped 318 car, it had the right stuff (4-speed, vinyl roof, console) and appealed to me and my girlfriend.  Right next to it was a "Plain Jane" Cuda, with no options to speak of, dog dish hubcaps, and it was an ugly red colour with a red interior.  It had a huge engine in it too, so it would get lousy mileage (yes, even in '70 it mattered!)  It also had a couple of hundred miles on it, mine had only 47 miles.

    We didn't like it much, and didn't really feel that "Hemi" made up for the extra $400 it would have cost!!!  (Yes FOUR HUNDRED!)   :crying:

    I still have my Barracuda.......gotta be worth at least $15,000.   :banghead:
