Here are just a few of the race cars in the paddock area. As I said, there were about as many race cars as there were show cars. Unfortunately, we arrived a little late in the day and didn't have much opportunity to tour the pits this year.
This guy in the Falcon raced with the Trans Am cars. It allegedly ran in the Midwest back in the days. Fast little car - it had a 4.7L (289 for us American guys) as opposed to the 5.0L (305) of the other cars, but he could run with them. He ran in the lead pack for the whole race.
Some of the Trans-Am Mustangs, including one of the Bud Moore '70's driven by George Follmer that won the championship that year.
This little guy ran in Group 7 Production Sports Cars, 1962-67, under 2.5 liters. He was fast - not to fast to accelerate, but tenacious in the corners. He could carry amazing speed on exit and passed a few Porsches and Alfas on the outside. Pics of Group 7 action appear below.
There was a pretty good collection of vintage open-wheelers...
Including the cute little quarter midget.
There was also a group of vintage NASCAR stockers. They ran a short exhibition race.
