Hood tach on '71 CUDA's
« on: April 13, 2004 - 02:29:19 PM »
What's the deal with those hood tachs I see on some '71 cuda's? I only see them with 'standard dash' cars, are they a dealer-installed item? Is there a code for them? Just wondering, they look cool as hell!!!

No, definitely not dealer installed. I guess the owner wants to look like he has a real drag strip monster.

Direct Connection (before Mopar Performance parts) sold 'em, and I think a few Mr Norm's cars left the show room with 'em, and probably a few others.  I saw one on a Mr Norm's '72 GSS 340 Six-Pack Demon, so I guess they could be considered dealer installed.

I like 'em.  If I could afford one, I'd put one on my Challenger.

I would never get a hood tacho, everone can see when it's time for you to shift and how hard your going......no excuses if you "lose" they know you were going hard thanks to Mr. Shift light.  ;D

Yeah, heard a lot about those Mr. Norms cars.  I think I got my Mr Norm's Demons years wrong, the '71 had the 340 Six-Pack; the one I would trade a nut for would be the '72 GGS Demon, Paxton Supercharged 340 Demon.... <drool>    ;D

I think its one of the most awesome Challengers I've seen.  That Shaker scoop looks perfect with a Hood Tach, huh?  I'd drop it a bit, though.

Nuff said.   ;)

Hey, if any of you guys do come across an old Direct Connection or Dixco hood tach and don't want to buy/use, pass along the info on to me.   ;D

Wow!  I would have been miffed, too!  And I did know about Mr Norm using the GM carbs.  The fuel lines ran on the opposite side of the carbs as the Mopar ones.  They also used an aftermarket cast air cleaner that had "TRI-POWER" cast on it, definately not a Mopar name!

That Black Chally looks awesome I'd either drop the front a little to make it sit right or raise the back. Apart from that...... :o :D ;D

Ahhh, but they can only read the hood tach when they are Behind you !

And if a guy couldn't take a loss with dignity, he could say he missed a shift [4 -speed] or knocked it up into neutral [auto]   :-[
