That's why I bought it!  I'm still leery of punching holes in the T/A hood, but hey it's fiberglass I can fill it in if I don't like it.

That isn't a real original Chrylser hood tach.  Someone took a reproduction and stuck a chrysler fender emblem on it.

Here is a brand new universal one.

IIRC the company was Dixco? that made the hustlestuff hood tachs. I almost bought one a couple years ago for a 71 road runner.
The pontiacs were big on hood tachs.
They look cool but are a pita. They are hard enough for the driver to see much less a guy in another car!! Plus they tend to leak moisture/condensation, etc.
If I ever get a road runner without an interior tach I'll get one though.

Info on Mopar tach from Hamtramck.
The Tach was an option from these pages see pic below.
Pontiac mounted the tach on the their cars from 67 to 72.

Plymouth, mounted them on the inside dash in 1970 and on the hood 1971.
Ford and GM also had them.
There is a page on Hamtramck of the hustlestuff but I cannot locate it.

The ebay one looks like a Pontiac unit with the fender Pentastar stuck on.  Mine is a Dixco.  It's physically identical to the Ford unit that seems much more common.  I've seen a bunch of this style tach with a Ford emblem on Mustangs.  I've also seen a few with the red white and blue Mopar emblem.  This is the only pentastar one I've seen.  I don't know if its an "official" Mopar part or just one that they printed the emblems on.  I would have preferred a Direct Connection logo just for period correctness, but I'll take what I can get.

Edit: There's the Mopar one on the sheet!  I think I paid a bit more than $58.45 tho...

That would look really cool on my Barracuda.
I have had them on a few pontiacs but not on a plymouth,  yet.
Anyone know where to find one like Jesus' tach?

Thanks for the hamtrack info.

Those are pontiac or generic.  Am I missing one with the pentastar?
Or do the generic ones come with whatever you want on it?

Don’t want a generic hood tach.  Either an original (probably too difficult to locate one) or a good reproduction.

Looks like all you need to do is find a generic or even Ford Dixco and this guy can get the pentastar faceplate for it.

http://www.tachman.com/dixco.htm

Here's one that needs a repaint anyway:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Original-Dixco-Hood-Tach-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3cb76e9b52QQitemZ260775517010QQptZVintageQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182

I've noticed they usually go for over $200 whenever they go up for auction.  I'm sure there are deals to be had if one is patient enough.
