70 Challenger Build date
« on: September 20, 2008 - 01:10:57 PM »
It's been a long process but I've actually got in touch with 3 previous owners of my challenger and I'm working on getting as many details on the car as I can since I couldn't get a broadcast sheet and the tag is missing.  I did have the one sheet in the driver seat that was actually close to my vin.  Can anyone help me out to an estimated build date and order number for my car?   Yes, I am a detail nut and I"m trying to at least have everything for reference.  I'm actually getting the original radio and some parts from a previous owner who was amazed the car was still around.  No broadcast sheet though....

VIN:JS23N0B154###

Order Number:
Build date:

Any number of things might have happened. The interior could have been swapped early in its life or even at the dealership. I have heard several stories about dealers swapping radios, wheels/tires and so on to make a sale. Is the sticker still on the inside of the drivers door? That will get you close, at least to the month. Without a fender tag or build sheet you are sol on a build date as far as I know.

No door sticker for me, the car was repainted and lost it stickers.  Any way to compare it to a similar VIN with a tag like B15##### etc? I just wanted to make a print out and have a rough estimate of numbers since I have tracked down and researched the majority of the options.

Barry might have a Challenger vin close to yours to compare build dates and you might get lucky and find the actual build date that way. Barry is Alaskan_TA btw.

If there is no actual documentation showing the cars actual SPD, I do not guess at that data. Same thing for order numbers. Most folks want that type of data to have fake fender tags or broadcast sheets made, so I do not do it for anyone.  :2cents:

Well Barry, how about this.  I would register VIN with you and if anyone was to look it up it would show tag/sheet missing or reproduced.  I would like to eventually put a tag on just for show, would even put a code in there to show it being reproduced etc.  Not trying to cheat anything really, just like to have it for show, not like some people who would make it have a crazy amount of options or higher engine.

How about this? You register, & then if I ever hear of your original fender tag, broadcast sheet or other paperwork I call you right away? That is how the registry works.

I have stuff here for cars with fake tags. I do not forward anything to car owners who have tried to fool me (or others) with them. I'll save them for the next owner.  ;)

If you are desperate for a fender tag to fill the space, please consider one like this;

        REWARD FOR MY
+ ORIGINAL FENDER TAG OR +
  OTHER  DOCUMENTATION
     Call 555-555-5555
     JS23 N0B 154###

It never hurts to try, great advertising at car shows.

A little update with the car....may have hit the jackpot!!

After speaking with some of the previous owners I finally hit the one I wanted.  This guy owned the car for the longest out of the previous owners and painted the car green which it kept for most of it's life before going back to original yellow.  He told me he took the tag off and may still have it!  :jumping: :woo:

Well the previous owner is a couple hours away from me but will give me a call back tonight with some info if he finds it.  He also told me about a 70 Cuda that he owned and that he has it's original block with some other rare parts from Mopar's he has owned through the years.  I'll try and scoop up some shots of everything when I go.

It is so funny how the 80's were around here. If you did not find a car chances are the data plate would be long gone. A few tweekers collected them like they were trading cards. Most of the time these guys owned the cars but sometimes I heard of them just taking the plates off to collect them.  :screwy:

Well got a call back, this guy told me he has over 20 tags and some broadcast sheets.   Owned a garage many years back.  Here's the numbers for my tag:

EN1
R21 V21 V9X YO7 26
J45 M21 M31 N41 N42 N85
V1X A62 B51 C16 C55 G36
FY1 H6X9 000 A08 C18331
E63 D32 JS23 NOB 154***

Does that "C" belong with the numbering sequence or should that be a zero?  I looked at some other tags and never saw the letter C there.

Now here's the thing, he wouldn't give me a price for the tag.  I just kept on asking, well what do you want for it and he wouldn't throw out a number.  I would love to buy all the tags and sheets and give them to Barry but I think this guy thinks he is sitting on a gold mine.  His son has advised him that Dodge stuff really is expensive (thanks Barrett Jackson).  From what he has told me the tag is in rough shape but you can read the numbers.  What's a tag worth?

The C in the VON denotes a Canadian order number, it goes with the Y07 code. (built for Canadian sale)

If it reads exactly like you typed it out there are a couple of issues though. He may have not read it off to you right due its condition?

Or ?????

Hey Barry,

The tag has rust issues with some holes so some of the letters were messed.  I just asked what letter it looked closest to and that's what he gave me.  As for the C thing, yea the car is from Canada so that matches up.

See if he can send you a photo of it, or if he will let you come look at it & photograph it yourself maybe?

Either way, try & get clear, close up photos of it from the front & back.
