NOS Rear Valance
« on: September 21, 2008 - 09:35:03 AM »
I have what I believe is a NOS Challenger Rear Valance with the exhaust cutouts. I have several questions.

1) How do I tell if it is actually a NOS piece?

2) If it is NOS what is it worth?

3) I have a 71 Chally Conv that I want to put a valance with cutouts on. This car does not have the original engine or trans, was originally a 318 car, I will be installing a 4speed and therefore I am more inclined to restomod since it will never be a numbers car. SO if it is NOS would I be money ahead selling this piece and buying a Repop?

A little info on the piece: I have had it for approx 12-15 years. I bought a bunch of parts back then for $100.00 and this was with those parts. It still has what is left of the torn up cardbord/paper package around it with a metal band around the cardboard and the Mopar Pentaster in several places. There is also a sticker on the part with a part number of 3616803. Thanks for any help and opinions.

Sounds like it is NOS, but if it were me, I would go ahead and put it on your vert.  Verts are very special cars, and I would try to do the best I could to use original metal.  As far as value, I don't think you will get a whole lot more than you would spend for a repop, unless the 1 in 100 buyer comes along who is doing a full, all NOS resto and will pay top dollar for it.

 :iagree:

Usually pretty easy to spot real NOS parts on Mopars.  Also, the early aftermarket valances were super flimsy.  Hard to say on the value but probably real good Eblay meat with a big reserve

Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess my only problem here is not knowing if it truley is NOS. It is not red oxide and I looked to try to find a part number but the only thing I see is a white sticker with the above number on it. I can't see the whole thing as I did not want to rip off what is left of the paper around it. It has a black protective covering. I have had it for many years hoewever and not sure when they started making repops.
