    I think any mopar that has an upgraded motor should have an upgraded fuel system to go with it.  A 5/16" fuel line over the length of the car is too restrictive, and is just inadequate for a performance engine. That's what they use on Slant-6's. If you're using the hose too it's russian roulette. For every guy that's got away with it you'll find 10 that screwed their motors up when they went lean. Go to the racetrack when they have a division meet and look at what the stock eliminator cars have. You'll never find the stock fuel line on a Mopar. It'll be a 1/2" line with an electric pump with a relocated fuel exit on the bottom of the gas tank. And using a good electric pump makes good sense if for no other reason than just getting the fuel pump off the engine where it draws heat and heats up the fuel ("Vapor lock") It's also better to push the fuel from the back than pull it from the front. It also take some HP from the motor to operate it, just like a fan belt driven fan blade. For the $$ spent it's one of the best mods you can do. My :2cents:

    the bosses 340 goes 12s,
    i'll ask him what alls done to it, but i know its got cast heads and solid cam, runs around on shell gas, no nos or anything.

    ok, i phoned him at home he said
    30 over 340
    10 to 1 forged
    holley intake and 750
    ported j heads and 202, hes the best.
    headers
    esky 255 degree solid cam 555 lift
    auto and 3800 stall trans
    456 gears and the slicks are 28 tall

    he said it dynos at 425 hp on the shell gas and goes 108 at 12.6 usually.

    i went for a ride last year in that thiung, holy crap it pulls

That engine had a Comp 268H High Energy cam, and a stock Tquad and Tquad intake. I did tune the heck out of it. In any event, the 340 needs gear, and static compression, and then it wakes up. No reason why a pretty much stock long block 340 can't touch the 13s with headers, better tires, a modern cam, and a rear gear steeper than 3.55s. You would need a convertor too. 340s dont have the highest torque figures. They like to live above 3K. I used to side step the clutch at 3200, and shift at 6000. If the car is not numbers matching and there is money enough to do a performance rebuild on that 340, go to 416. It's not much more, and the result is the ultimate street smallblock.
