    I'll just say it would require a suspension of my known belief to think  production 440 heads could ever be ported by a competent head porter within the safe constrains of the castings to the point that it would negatively affect the motors performance in any way at any RPM, and leave it at that. It is a very large motor with very small head ports and valves for it's size (the same heads used on the much smaller 383), and it's hardly a gas sipping model of internal combustion efficiency in stock form. Believe whatever you choose to believe, but you'll never convince me otherwise.  :smokin:

    71, I'm not trying to change your mind. That's not my thing. But I am trying to show others that not all is quite what it appears with some of the things you suggest.

    Take this 440.. 600hp. Heck of a plant. Big ports.. hell yeah.   

    So where were the rest of the guys going to get VP 114 leaded racing fuel for it? Static ratio of 13:1 eh? I could make that easy with that squeeze.  But its a race engine as far as any gas pump is concerned. Thanks for letting me see what they did. :cheers:

    I thought this might be of interest in this thread.

    This is the only iron headed 440 to have run a NINE in a Mopar in the UK. Without NOS or whatever.

    Sorry I don't have better photos but that is out of my control. However you do get a hint of the intake runner work.

    That is totally different............. Looks as though the port adapter plate is near 3/4 of an inch thick. :22yikes: :2thumbs:

    Got a better photo of the intake runners for you.

    The heads are 906's with the ports raised a 1/2''. These lower flutes are to guide the intake charge around the curve.

    That's to use a "B" engine intake. "RB" stands for "Raised block" and that spreads the Intake on the 413/426wedge/440 motor which you have to use a wider Intake for, or plates like those.

    That would probably indicate (if you have production heads on specifically a MOPAR) that either whoever ported them screwed them up, or you have something else wrong, like it's so lean with the extra air that it falls on it's face and stumbles. There will be no doubt that you spent your money in the right place the first time you step on the gas with heads ported by a competent shop, if everything else is right.  :grinyes:

    This same effect can be done on an RB with an RB intake if the intake is lifted and spacer plates used to raise the intake ports and fill the floor of the port like these are that Roppa440 posted, not sure how thick the plate would be as i have to check for myself. :2thumbs:

    Seen it happen. Too big a head with too little cam, big induction, not enough rpms.

    That iron headed engine was in a Dart. I don't know the weight but a previous owner of that Dart says it was " a heavy car for a back halved racer".

    My question would have been why go to all that bother and obvious expense to port a pair of 906 heads?? :clueless:

     :iagree:  You're better off buying good aftermarket heads. The one exception is if you already have a good set of heads with larger valves already installed with a good valve job and good guides. In that case the expense won't kill you. If you have to do it all, or correct someone else's machine work, then it can get expensive.

    That picture looks like there was runners set in place moreso then ported in that profile....weird.   :clueless:

    The ports have been raised a half inch. So that floor will be sitting on top of the original floor.
