Spare Tire Size
« on: September 23, 2008 - 08:55:50 AM »
Does any know what the factory spare tire size was for a 15" rim if a space saver was not ordered?  I've got a 15"x6" rim for a spare, but figured the P245/60R15 that I'm running is too big.  Maybe a 205 or 215?  Thanks

Not sure if you're wanting to be correct or wanting to fit a tire to match/suit in there but I can fit a 245/60 in the Challenger.
The 'Cuda wouldn't allow it, just a tad too big. I could probably force it in but it would be a good luck game getting it out lol.

I am trying to remember because I found this out some years ago and made a note but cannot find the info. From memory I think it was a plain steel 15" wheel painted black? I will keep looking for the note I made. I can't trust my memory.

This reminds me. I must try to get hold of a space saver from a Jeep Cherokee. They look as if one would make a great spare for the Challenger.

Just to let you know that they come in at least two different sizes (height).

Actually. Now I am remembering that if you ordered 15 inch wheels for your e-body (or if they came as part of the package) you got a space saver if you wanted one or not.

Cheers! I would be looking for one about 26.5 inches tall to suit the height of my tyres on all 4 corners.

I have found tires as large as 235/60R15 to be about 26.5" in diameter. If I am not mistaken, that is the approximate size of my 295/50R15. I have also measured 14" tires for this size range and come up with 205/70R14. In a 15" tire, I would guess at a 205/70 or 75R15 for the 26.5" diameter. Sites like Tirerack can help with this kind of sizing requirement, and you will be able to get the tire you need.
