What is Carlisle?
« on: September 23, 2008 - 06:39:43 PM »
Do not laugh at me as I am still learning!! :newbie: And my enquiring mind wants to know about Carlisle.

I assume it is a Car show of some sort, but just want a brief little background and history on
Carlisle if someone could be so kind. I do not really want to read the whole 15 pages (under Carlisle onthis forum)
and trying to piece it together. Once I know what it is and Carlisle is put into context for me, then I will go through
those 15 pages over time.

Thanks,
Bella

Carlisle, Pennsylvania is where the all Chrysler Nationals are held. It's a HUGE fairground. Not only show cars, and new cars/concept cars, but people selling parts too.  We, meaning some of us from this site, have been getting together there for the last 5 years or so. We have our own tent in the field to sit under and get out of the hot sun. The tent is always parked among the E-Body cars somewhere, so the view is nice.   :grinyes: We have been lucky enough to have members cook or bring food for lunch. It's just fun meeting fellow members. Some bring their cars, some don't. We hang out after the show too. Dinner at some specified place, followed by our own little party in the parking lot of the Hotel we stay at. Sleep is something you don't get much of that weekend.   :22yikes:

 :iagree:

I have always equated Carlisle to Mopar people as Muslims equate Mecca as their wholly site, they must make the journey once in their lives.   :blah:     I know Im full of it.....

You can do a Google under "Carlisle" and find the web site for Carlisle events. They do not only Mopar events, but Ford and Chevy too. Shows, auctions too. I think it is about a 30 acre site. lots of fun! :woo: I too went for the first time this summer and got to meet the crowd from CC.com. It was a blast. You gotta go at least once if you are a true Mopar addict and you'll get to meet MEK to boot!!! :roflsmiley:

Carlilse is great, we had fun when we went, some of the after show diners took a long time, but gave us more time to talk.

I wish Carlilse had something like the Nats though with cruise in the town of Heath.

I went for the first time this year also, it was great. I got to see some members and met DoNotChallengeHer/Jackie, Shelby, and Barry. I stopped by the tent a little and introduced myself to who was there on friday which was about two people. The show is run very well and there are attractions such as test driving a car, with the parking brake on and giveaways. I plan to go from Thursday to Sunday next year.

Bella,

The only way to describe Carlisle is the greatest time you'll have at any Mopar event there is anywhere. It's overwhelming. 5,000 + cars there. Vendors at the swap meet area would probably fill 4 football fields.

It's a must do event like Don said. From the west coast you can get close to there for under 300 round trip if planned well ahead. If you're planning to fly out, check out Southwest. They're the cheapest and most on time.

Do not forget having Shelby's car temporarily impounded as part of a copy right infringement raid.  :22yikes:

I was reading about this in MCG. Sounds like they just cast a net over everything and everyone within spitting distance.

I should mention I lived in Carlisle for a short time and enjoyed the car show. I was only a few miles from it. It is a beautiful area for those who take the time to check it out, and I agree the valley would provide a great place for a cruise. You can't get lost there with hills on both sides, just drive towards the center and you will hit a main route. There was a good place for breakfast just down the road where the Carlisle Pike splits. It is between the East and West bound lanes before getting into New Kingstown. Anyone know if it is still there? I plan on moving back to PA in the near future, and know I will attend the show if possible.

Ive never been there myself, but have seen pictures of cars on display. Ive heard tell its a place where they call it a field of dreams.  I'd get arrested if I bring my car. There are about 200 purple cars there and someone would think I was stealing their car since mine is purple to.  WOW I didnt know my car ran so good.    OIC   hemi,   oops where my 318 body purple barracuda....Sorry.  Hey , why is the fbi here?  Shelby's car is on display.  MEK , why Pink :roflsmiley:  Hey this salad is as good as the lady that made it.

For myself, Carlisle has become more about the people than the cars. I get to see old pals, make new pals and put faces together with the emails, phone calls, forums & letters. I saw hundreds of folks there this year I knew in one way or another. Sadly, I missed some as well, it is a big, busy place.

If I miss Carlisle, you can know that I am at home quite depressed by not being able to make it there.  :2cents:
