I was going to put a set of H4 tribar headlights on the high beam side. but when I went to install I saw I had to cut up the headlight door to make the larger bulb cone work. I didn't want to jut up anything to make them fit. Anyone know if a h4 that are bolt in. Or what can you do to make the H4 fit without cutting?

See the cone off the back of the bulb. That won't fit into the 73 housing. Everything else works but how can you make them fit?

For mine the inside diamiter of the cone on the light was the same as the hole in the headlight door. It was almost an 1/8 or more larger. But I may be a little off. Are the headlight holders the same on mine (73 challenger) as yours? If so I could just try to find another set to cut up.  :clueless:

I used Carello H1 and H4 sets in my '71.  No mechanical changes needed though I had to do the relay update or the high beams would cause the switch circuit breaker to throw.

These were purchased through a foreign auto parts store in the '80s.  I do not know if they are available these days, but they are excellent quality and have a great light pattern with the OE H4 bulbs.

I had to open mine up on my 70 Challenger. It was worth it along with the relays to get bright lights.

I think I used these guys...I'll have to check when I get home.  I looked at so many places for the 5.75" conversions.

My car is originally a 1971 base Barracuda.  As part of the make-over process, I wanted to add roadlamps and do the H-4 conversion.  I followed the plan laid out by Goody, but for a 70-71 with roadlamps it needs to be modified to control the lighting correctly (i.e. not having roadlamps and brights on at the same time.)  Here's what I came up with.  I can provide pics as well, if needed.

I used standard four-post relays to control the low beams, high beams and road lamps.  I am switching back and forth between the high beams and road lamps with a five-post relay.  With my lights, the high beams will draw a total of 260W (65 W * 4), or 22 amps.  Pulling that much power, you'll want a 10 ga main feeding the circuit.  Not shown in the picture is the 30 amp fuse for the brights/road lamps and the 10 amp fuse for the low beams.
