My new B5 70 Barracuda-how did I do?
« on: September 27, 2008 - 11:58:27 AM »
Hey guys,
I am a 25 year old guy from the Wichita, Ks area. My best friend in high school had a 72 Barracuda in high school that I really liked. I couldn't afford the Mopar stuff so I messed around with Brand F for 8 years. I dumped all my that stuff and looked for a Cuda as soon as I could afford it. I finally found this 70 Barracuda Gran Coupe one hour from me on Craigslist and happily paid $5500 for it. It was originally a 383/4bbl/Auto/AC. It is a RIDICULOUSLY rust free car from Oklahoma and has not been on the road in 20 years. The frame rails and floor boards are perfect and only the right quarter panel has a little bit of rust. I do not have the original engine, but I bought a 70 440 for it. I located and bought most of the interior, a grill, and wiring harness, but I need some odds and ends parts. Let me know what you think!!

The guy I bought the car from bought the Barracuda and the bondo queen Roadrunner (seen in the background) for a package price of $12,000. He did not know that the previous owner had the Barracuda listed at $10,000 and the Raodrunner at $3,000. So he listed both cars on Craigslist-the Barracuda for $5000 and the RR for $8500. I called him the day the car was listed and he said it was sold. 2 weeks later I saw the listing again so I called him. He said that the first guy never showed back up but that the car was going to be traded for a 440, a race car frame, and cash. I offered full price in cash and he wouldn't do it so I asked what he would have to have. He said $5500 and I told him I was on my way. 3 hrs later I was staring at it in my rearview mirror all the way home. He still has the RR but it is a heap. Lots of parts, but the sheetmetal is awful. I traced the car's history back 18 years to Oklahoma but lost the trail after that. I need to see if I can get a Carfax report for it.

I want a cruizer-something I can drive on nice days but something I can thrash and not feel too bad about. I want to upgrade to front disc brakes, repaint the car, run a date correct 440/auto. it had A/C and I think I will try to source parts to put it back in.

Welcome to the site. Big block e bodies are fun aren't they?  If myself or anyone here can help or answer some questions, just feel free to make a post.

I like the wide variance of quoted pictures of a rust free e body.  I would think you would want at least one new rear quarter.  Is that mud or rust on the back  :stirpot:   Seriously, it will come back unless you cut it out and replace it.    You stole it for 5500 :2thumbs:

That's a great car and you got it at an awesome price!! I'd love to see some pics of the interior. How is that?? Rallye dash?? I had a 70 Cuda with a 383 (original motor) but it is long gone. Keep us posted on the project and WELCOME to CC.com!! :bananasmi You will find plenty of advice/tips and friendly people. A lot of people have paid as much as you did for just a rolling rusty frame. A great find indeed!!
