What Motor Oil Do You Use?
« on: September 28, 2008 - 02:04:48 AM »
I'm sure most of you out there use good oil for your cars but just recently I've read about most oils taking some additives out causing extreme wear to flat-tappet cams.  This year I used 15w40 diesel oil.

I've attached 5 pages from an article that describes what has been going on with the new oils of today and what you should buy to protect your motors.  Just some info I thought everyone should know.

Or does this have less to do with polution & is more of a subversive way to get all the gas guzzing older cars off the road so we have to go buy new  vehicles to support the struggling car industry  :poopoke:

I use 30 weight diesel oil. :naughty:
Most diesels still use flat tappet cams and therefore diesel oil has still got the right zinc content. :thinkerg:

Royal purple 10W40
:iagree:  Switched to this last year from Redline Oil

The only thing that caught me off guard with Royal Purple is the fact that it is really purple when it comes out of the bottle.

I have a bunch of the gallon jugs of pre-castrated Rotella.  Hopefully I'll have the car driving before it "times out" on the shelf.  If not I have a neighbor who can use it.

   :iagree:

That's what I use, although Royal Purple is good too for those of us that like to spring for $ynthetics.    :money:

I`ve just been adding the Comp cams break in lube at every oil change as they recommend.

Ive been using Valvoline VR1 race oil 20w-50 (its the only weight that pep boys carrys in the race oil).  I would prefer the 10w-40 race oil as it would free up some horse power but at the sacrifice of my engine, i'll have to stick with the thicker oil till I can find a stash of the other race oil weights.
