Recommendation for 1971 Dodge Challenger Restoration
« on: September 30, 2008 - 04:29:57 PM »
Details:
I have a 1971 Challenger that I bought 15 years ago when I was just 19.   The engine seized a few years ago and it’s been sitting ever since.  My dream is to restore it and drive it, but I don’t have $50k to send it to a shop for a complete rebuild.

The car:
1971 Challenger (hemi orange)
- 340 small block
- 750 double pumper
- rebuilt 727 w/shift kit
- 8 ¾ rear end

What it needs:
-   Body work
-   Engine rebuild
-   Interior freshening
-   Brake work (its been sitting too long)

I’m pretty handy with cars, but I’m no expert.

What I’m looking for is a recommendation for a shop or a group of Mopar guys that can help me get this amazing car out of the garage and back onto the streets.

Let me know what you think!

I live in Toronto, Ontario.  My car is in storage near London Ontario (St.Thomas).

Although the pics look good, there's a good amount of body work needed.  I'm not sure, but there's rust behind the rear doors, and on the floor.  The pics were taken about 5 to 8 years ago, its been sitting for a while.

I'm really hoping to find a way to get this done and done right.  Its not a "numbers matching" car.  It was oringinally a plum crazy 318, 3 speed.

My ultimate goal would be to make it look and drive as best it can.

Something like this in the pic below.

you found the place, there are so many knowledgeable mopar guys here that can walk you through almost anything, there is nothing that you ask that some of them have never done.

don't hesitate to ask and you will get everything answered.

Hope to see your car out on the road & at the shows soon.  I'm located in St. Thomas but know nothing about rebuilding cars.  For motor work you could try Harv's Auto ( he's semi-retired ) located on Sandi Mount Hill or Dave Wheeler Auto, 267 Currie Road, Dutton, ON.   Wish I could help more.
You can call me RAY or RAYMOND or RAZOR or THE ZOR!

Body and paint is usually the biggest expense for most guys but if you have a garage and the time buy a welder and learn-it`s not that hard and there are plenty of us here to help.
