Correct 70 Challenger antenna
« on: October 02, 2008 - 01:27:22 AM »
Does anyone know if there is a specific "correct" antenna for a 70 Challenger? The antenna that was on my car when I bought it in 1980 was fixed but I do not know the legnth. The mast has been lost. I have seen some supposed original antennas that are collapsible and some that are fixed. I have also seen legnths from 31 to 60". Any input is appreciated.

Not that I'm any help here, but I bought what was SUPPOSED to be a 70 Challenger antenna. It is a fixed mast, but can be unscrewed from the base.

All 1970 antennas were telescoping.

The fixed mast antenna was not used until the 1972 model year.  :2cents:

My '71 (build date 4/14/71) came with a fixed mast antenna.  It sure looks original.

Exibit "A" for the court below. It is from the 1972 passenger car service highlights manual. These were used to train dealership service personnel & alert them to changes from the previous model year.

Note that it says "This new antenna.......".

If anyone has any proof that a fixed mast antenna was used in 1970, I would love to see it.  ;)

Exibit B - from 1971. No mention of a fixed mast at all, just the extendable versions;

Exibit "C" is from the 1970 factory service manual. If anyone has a fixed antenna that extends to 40" as stated below, I would love to see it.  ;)

With the courts permission, I rest my case.

Well, I love him to bits, but some days my dad does not remember what he had for dinner the day before.
(no reflection on your dad at all, but mine is OLD)

I have been wrong in the past, I am sure I will be wrong again in the future. I may be wrong now.

But, from everything I have here at my disposal right now, nothing suggests that a fixed mast antenna was available in 1970 on any of our cars.

I read everything I can find on these cars. If someone, anyone has something that does not agree with the exhibits I posted, I would LOVE to see it.

I am not afraid of being wrong, not ever. So, please post up if anyone here has anything new at all on the subject to show us?  :dunno:

I have learned a lot from being proved wrong over the years. No one is too old to be corrected if the data exists........
