Ram SRT/10 vs. Mustang GT(a bit long)

This isn't a brand new one, but it's a good one.
My uncle owns Hometown Subaru Kia and Hyundai in Beckley, WV. My cousin gets a nice benefit and gets to drive some of the new cars and many of the used ones around the area. He has an '05 Subaru WRX STI, which I gotta say almost got me into ricers after driving it. Anyways, there was a 2004 Ram SRT/10 sitting in the lot. I asked him if I could drive it around. We asked my uncle like 2 kids in a candy store. He says yes, and we took it out. First off, as gas is way too high, it took $93 to put about 3/4 a tank of gas in this thing. We pulled out of the gas station in front of a 99-04 Mustang GT. This tool pulls up next to us at the light and revs his engine. I rev the engine in the truck and just about s#!t myself, that thing was crazy loud(mind you,this is a used truck, and not all the parts were stock as I later found out). The stang peeled away and went onto the interstate. I tailed him onto the interstate, and we were going back and forth. we were doing about 90 before I actually floored it. I could hear the mustang fade away, and about 20 secs later, he was out of my rear view.

To anyone who owns a Ram SRT/10 those things haul ass and then some.
To anyone who doesn't, this is a Mopar you HAVE to drive before you die

I met a guy with one of those at the local steak house. He was telling me he shucked the teeth off the ring gear when it wheel-hopped and the dealership wasn't very pleased. They fixed it, but said they wouldn't if he broke it again. For those that don't know, they come with Dana-60's. They are supposed to be "unbreakable" with steet tires. Apparently that doesn't apply to a 5,000lb truck with a 500 hp V-10 Viper engine

Dont most all newer cars have a speed limiter on them? Cant go over 90 or so without some kind of aftermarket chip program being installed?

I don't know if it had a chip in it. It might have. It was a crew cab, and I was doing about 140 in that bad boy down I-64. Who has a Ram SRT/10? can a stock one go that fast?

Most performance cars do not have a limiter on them, passenger cars like my old 97 concorde did and even it was higher then 90 or so I hear . The SRT10 Ram is good for over 150MPH out the factory in RC form....dont know about the CC, but Im guessing it is within 10mph.

my 99 neon is good for 130 before the limiter kicks in. 97 Concorde would probably be like our old 96 intrepid, 110 when the limiter kicks in. I think the Viper truck is limited to like 155 or something.

Ok, so then it was stock. I don't know dirt about chips, fuel injection systems, etc. I was raised on an '85 Monte Carlo SS, so what little I do know is on older cars(and a bit on ricers  )

Many modern cars do have limiters on them, so that they can't go faster than the stock tire rating or meeting European regulations, I think (Any of our Euro members that can confirm that?)  I know for awhile that many Euro cars were limited to 155 mph.  Killer Mopar is correct that most high-performance cars these days do not have limiters on them, but they almost all run Z-rated tires.  If you pick up a copy of Car & Driver or Road & Track they each have a page that recaps the significant figures from their road tests for about the last two years, including top speed, 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Those trucks are very cool.   I'll never forget the Ram SRT-10 club I met at the Nationals in '06.  One had a very sweet one that just got back from having a custom air system built and his friend was a couple trucks ahead with these two "little" guys under the hood...  He said he was going to run it down the 1/4, but I must have missed it.

Yup, I'm lucky enough to own a 2006 RC Night Runner Edition. Has mild bolt ons, long tub headers, midless cats, 3" catback, CAI, TB, short throw, upgraded clutch and hydraulics, lowering kit, 45 series tires, lots of stealth mods, etc. It's estimated around 500rwhp and it's fun as hell to drive and drops jaws, especially down here where "trucks" are rare anyhow, let a lone a Viper Powered one. Mine is one of 28 now 1 of 1 - The Batram. I love it and will never part with it. It had 5,000miles on it when I purchased it, still around 7,000. I purchased it off a member here: "Cannibal". They're good for 4.6-4.8 0-60mph times and the best completely stock time I've seen and heard is 12.61 @ 110mph. Not bad for 2.3 tonnes of MoPar.

I have a colleague who's a former car mechanic, I'll ask him about this.
But as far as I know, only Mercedes, BMW, and Audi (Possibly also the hotter VW's) have voluntarily installed a speed limiter at 250 km/h as a gentlemans agreement. Porsche doesn't. I very much doubt that most of the other makes have a speed limiter, since they don't have many cars able to go faster.
The exotics excluded of course, since very few would buy for instance a Ferrari limited to 250 km/h.

Asked the colleague, and he didn't know about anyone but Audi, BMW, and Mercedes who had a speed limiter.
He did think there was a few models from other brands with a top speed of 250 km/h, but that it's likely that those haven't got the capabillities for much more speed anyway.
