Agreed.
I have the stock drums in back and did a disc conversion in front with a booster/ new master cylinder.

The first run was with the choke stuck on and it was really not right. Once we got it shut off, the car was dramatically different even though it's still not fully dialed in.

As far as the M/C, I was looking at the Wilwood 1 1/8" bore unit. I've seen one like it on at least one car on here. Is it a direct replacement or is there customization needed? brads70, is yours a direct replacement? What make/model is it?

I contacted Dr Diff and told them my setup and asked for recommendations. They recommended the 1 1/32" bore because "If it measures 1 1/8", I recommend one of my 1 1/32" bore units. The smaller bore size will give you a lighter pedal, with increased clamping force at the drums."

I did some other research that sort of confirmed this. From Popular Hotrodding (http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0601phr_braking_systems/viewall.html), they said: "Generally speaking, if the master cylinder bore is too large, the driver will feel a very hard pedal feel with minimal pedal travel, and will have a difficult time generating the necessary pressure to effectively operate the brake system. If the master cylinder bore size is too small, the driver will be able to generate a lot of pressure, but the pedal may have an excessively long stroke or a very spongy feel."

I think I may take this discussion over to the braking section and see what I find since I'm still not sure what I should get.

FYI.... I have DrDiff (Cass) 1 1/32 bore M/C on my standard brake set up and while I always have " brakes"  I don't like the feel, and not sure how they would be in a panic stop situation? So with that I'm planning a hydroboost set up this winter and with that Cass suggested
 ( and I have sitting ready to go ) a 1 1/8" M/C . Just thought I'd share what I experienced?

The 1 1/32 unit I got from DrDiff comes with a adapter mounting plate that bolts right onto the standard brake firewall plate. I'm sure it is a stock replacement for something but I don't know what?
The Hydroboost will require a custom plate to mount it on the firewall.

No rain yesterday so I got out the timing light, tachometer, and vacuum gauge and did some more tuning. I think I've got it pretty dialed in now. Even though it's an RV motor that's been detailed, it still has far more torque than my original warmed up 318. It's running really good now. Woo Hoo! The rain is back for the week now.

Next up, master cylinder replacement. I received my 1 1/32" bore cylinder from Dr Diff this week. I'll likely get it installed this weekend. Hopefully I have some brakes with good feel. I'll then feel safe enough to turn the 'other way' out of my driveway into the rest of the world instead of going further into the dead-ended neighborhood.

After that comes headliner install and hood final adjustment by someone who knows what they're doing. Not necessarily the same someone.

Went out and adjusted/modified the hood latch so the hood will close all the way and align with the fenders. Also adjusted the headlights so they're usable.

I got the 440 Magnum hood emblems for Christmas and they arrived today. Yay! on the downside, the holes in the hood don't match with the emblems. Not sure what the hood came off of or what actually fits the holes, now I need to figure out how to proceed.

You can see that there are 3 holes in the hood and 2 pins on the emblems. No 2 holes in the hood match the 2 pins on the emblem.

Thoughts?

The hood may have been from a 440 Six Pack car.  I have a 6Pk emblem sitting on my desk it measures 3 1/4 between the first two holes and 3 7/8 between the second and third.

Hmm, that's possible. Mine holes have the same dimensions that you said. I also thought it might be 340 Four Barrel since those come in 3-pin emblems as well.

I'm going to return the Magnum emblems (bummer) and probably look for some custom emblems (440 Four Barrel) that are stick on that will cover all 3 holes.

The only place I've found so far is http://www.customautoemblems.net/ but they're kinda steep (~150/ea).

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Actually, I'm not sure that the price is ~150/ea. It might be per pair. It's not clear on their site. I've contacted them and am waiting for a reply. If it's per pair, that wouldn't be too bad.

I'll keep you informed.

The price is per pair. I've been working with David over there and he's been very helpful. I'm going to get the exact measurements of the holes and distances between them so we can get the proper emblem on the first shot.

This is the sample he sent to print out and test. At least they'll have the proper measurements for anyone else with a hood with 3 holes. I hope the picture is right side up...

If it was me I would fill the holes and put the 150.00 into having the hood resprayed.A good painter will match the paint.I would want the correct emblems on the hood for that year  not something that will just cover the holes..Just my 2 cents.

The question is, what is the right emblem? It's a 70 318 car that 'looks' like an R/T. It has a 440 that's a highly detailed RV motor (not a magnum). The ultimate to me would be a 6.1 Hemi but that's not in the budget right now.

To me, 440 Four Barrel is right for now.
