Well, shining an white LED flashlight through the red lens is ok, not great. You get a bright light but the red is kind of washed out - moving towards pink but not quite. Works fantastic for the b/ups though.

Good job :2thumbs: Thanks! The e-bay set up looks sort of pink with the pictures they post now that you mention it!

Some thoughts on the setup that Ryan posted - those LED bulbs look like the best I have seen so far. One way to enhance them would be to take the red lens off the tailight and apply some chrome tape to the inside of the backing. That way the forward facing LEDs will reflect their light out the back. I am going to try this as those yo-yos on the roads always come too close at night. Otherwise I was going to dismantle some trailer LED stop/tails and convert them to inside the housing.

the lights themselvs are cheap. I found a site where i can get 500 reds for 15 dollars and 100 whites for 8 dollars. The whites are a lot brighter then the reds is the reason they are more expenseive. My main question is how to make then sequential?

Well im pretty decent with electronics, i havent had any of my circuits classes yet so i dont know think i could just sit down and do it all by my self but i know i could with a little guidance.

The problem is making them sequential. The brake lights and the turn signals use the same wire. If I put a circuit between the right-left light and the right-right to make them sequence, they will also sequence when I hit my brakes.  I would want them to sequence every time they turn on (blinking turn signal) but both turn on at the same time when I hit my brakes.  (that's just me though). Shouldn't be too hard to etch some boards, drill holes, solder LEDs and resistors, etc. but I don't have any spare time.  Somebody that wants to try this has everything available at an electronics surplus store.

The problem is making them sequential. The brake lights and the turn signals use the same wire.

This is just some simple logic chips. They can be had at any supply place. I could figure it out if I had the time. The problem would be making it reliable. This is the brake lights we are talking about here. I wouldn't do the seguential thing.  :nono:

Why couldn't you just make them out of more than one board. Glue em together?

just thought it would be simpler if it was all one piece per side

and i think i could make a complete set with 2 9x12 boards. so 40 for the boards. 15 or so for the lights, 10 for the etching solution. still looking up prices on a few other things
