70 Challenger T/A Replica Update
« on: October 08, 2008 - 04:41:05 PM »
Hi everyone! It's been a while since I have posted but I have been following some of the builds that you guys have been doing. It's great motivation and helps me to keep going. I have had a sick infant that has taken much of the free time I did have but I'm now getting some back and starting to work on the car again. I'm still in teardown mode and restoring the pieces as I remove them. Over the past few weeks I have removed the Heater box and started to restore it. I'm currently waiting on a blower motor for it so I can get it back together. I also have been freshening the grille this past week while waiting on the blower motor.

Here's a few pics. First, Car in current condition.

Here's the center part of the grille. The egg crate is just sitting in there and I have not riveted it into place yet.

I finished up the Dash last month. Couple of loose ends but it's done.

I'm in the process of finishing up my castors and dollies so that I can pull the drivetrain this fall. So far both front fenders have been media blasted and rust repaired. The pass door, trunk lid, and front and rear valances have been blasted and primed also. That's about it for now. Hope to make more progress over the winter. Still don't know what color to paint the thing yet. Color of the moment is EK2.

Looks like a great project, I love the T/A's, I too have a clone. Mine is orinal pink deputy coupe 318-3spd manual cloned to a T/A. Its done pretty accurate, a blast to drive.   :2thumbs:

Keep up the good work and posts lots of pics!

Hey Joe,
Its looking good! Is your dash pad an original? I think I see original stitching? Wish I was closer to you. I'd give you a hand in knocking out some projects this winter.

I like Cuda-Challengers resto section best out of all the boards. Its easy to keep a running post and you can upload up to 10 pics in each reply. Great for documenting the restoration.

Thanks everyone.

1BadFish, you have a great looking car. Pink really works for the T/A cars. Sounds like our 2 cars are sort of similar. Mine was not a deputy but was a 318 3spd car also. The previous owner (a friend of mine) was wanting a T/A since a friend of his had 2 of them. He bought this car back in the 80s when T/A cars were a little harder to locate and decided to make it a T/A replica. It was his daily driver for many years and he did a cosmetic resto in 86 or so. The entire exterior looked like a T/A with relocated antenna and all. He never got around to doing the drivetrain even though he had most of the parts. Ended up putting 280K on the 318. I bought the car and it came with a rebuilt 4 speed and other necessary T/A components.

Hey Tom. The dash pad is one of the Ultimate Ride pads. Overall, it fit pretty well with the one exception being where the L-plastic trim that goes under the radio comes up an meets it. If you look close in the photo I posted you can see a gap. Since then I was able to tweak things and get most of the gap out. However, the contour of the padding in that area does not align with the left side of the plastic trim very well. I have it to the point where I can live with it though. Still looking to see your "Hidden Radio" plans so I can copy them.

Joe

I have the same problem with my ultimate rides pad. Bad fit on the left hand plastic trim. I'm still playin with it.

I actually started my hidden radio install. I'll post a seperate thread when its done. So far so good. I fabbed a metal tray to screw into the glove box frame.

I think I rode in this car. Have you had it long? Was it in the Pennsylvania area? My Friend Larry had an original pink deputy T/A clone for a while. Very nice ride!
