One last quarter panel install question
« on: October 10, 2008 - 01:17:58 AM »
I'm hoping to finish up the quarter panel install this weekend and have one last fitment question.  The panel between the upper body line and main body line is too flat compared to the arch on the door.  Since I don't have a shrinker, I was thinking about making a small pie cut or two on the panel in the door jamb to see if that allows me to put more curve in to the panel.  Thoughts?  Other sugguestions?   :1zhelp:

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Travis

Right at the top where the door meets the quarter is too tight on mine. I plan on doing a repair there.

Travis,
Any chance sectioning a piece out of your old quarter for the area and transplanting would relieve the "flat spot"? Just a thought but maybe not possible or feasible.

Geez  sounds like you got a bad stamp. But it's hard to envision - got pics?

Travis, I did the same on mine. I also had differences in curvature and I did probably 10 cuts or so to get the shape right.

After lots and lots of adjusting and trial fitting, I was able to get it to fit the curvature of the door pretty well.  In fact it now amplifies that fact that I had sanded the door flat on the edge right below the main body line (I had a big door crease there).  The very bottom corner area of the door jamb doesn't fit that great and has a small gap that I'll have to bridge with a small piece of sheetmetal, but other than that I'm pretty happy with the overall fit.

Looks great - don't forget to bolt up the rear lower valence before welding!

 :iagree:

Make sure you have the decklid on to check everything before welding as well.
