Remote shifter? Looks
to me. The holes are just for the linkage on the A833, and the tunnel is just to cover the holes & linkage, but you're assuming you won't have to cut the floor for the T5. I don't know much about T5's, but it still may not fit, with linkage, into the original auto tunnel...And you'll still have to go with conversion parts for the bell and clutch. Then work out the linkage (man there's more than I thought there was), do the custom driveshaft thing, work out a transmission mount, and deal with the shifter being in a weird spot. Plus, if anything breaks, you can't just buy the stuff, you'll have to make it up again.
I like to do stuff myself, so I get that part of it. Unfortunately, the more I do custom work myself the more I realize that its
always easier to use something designed to do what its doing, and often not significantly more expensive. For example, the A833OD conversion I'm doing for my challenger. Its no different on the outside than an A833, so really there's no custom work at all, just finding parts. I could go on Brewer's and buy a complete 4 speed conversion for $3,550. I assume that would get me a rebuilt transmission, and at least reconditioned parts. As I mentioned before, I've spent about 1300 bucks so far, with at least a few hundred to go. Lets call that close to 2k. True, I've saved about 1500 bucks, but my transmission isn't rebuilt, and while some of my parts are new, some aren't even reconditioned. Granted I can't find anything wrong with them at the moment (I wouldn't have bought them otherwise,I'm pretty sure everything will work just fine), but my savings will go away pretty quick if I have to start rebuilding stuff. And of course if I started adding up hours I spent looking for all the parts, and gas picking things up, etc., I'm sure the savings would get pretty marginal.
I do get to say I did it myself though, and hopefully pretty soon I can tell everyone just how much less than 2k it cost me. But it still would have been easier, faster, and quite possibly resulted in a more reliable product had I just spent little more money. Hopefully this isn't too discouraging, after all, I didn't listen to my own advice, but I figured I should mention my experiences. Plus, if you end up selling the car, the transmission may end up costing you even more money since it isn't stock, and doesn't have a nice company name to attach to it...
