Need help decoding a couple of options on a fender tag...
« on: October 11, 2008 - 12:56:13 PM »
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack 4-speed Super Trak Pak FK5/FK5 exterior H6X9 interior Y07 (Canada specs) car.

I have been trying to decode this fender tag codes for a bit and can't come up with the correct information.

A16 I know this car is not a Fury III spring special!
C59 I do not believe I ever saw this one before.
C34 I come up with front seat shield (?) What is this?

Perhaps the owner is reading it wrong...but that is what he posted.

Seemed strange to me.

Thanks guys, I'll post up some photos when the owner sends them to me.

It is one option away from being a two tag car. It is very loaded, however there is no N96 shakker code. He also has the build sheet which I told him to sen a few photos (in sections) so I can can all the info. He sent a photo of the fender tag but it is small and can't be read.

Here are all the options he told me was on the fender tag:

JS23VOBXXXXXX - VIN number

J - Dodge Challenger
S - Price class - Special (R/T package)
23 - Hardtop
V - 440 Six Pack high performance engine (390 Horsepower / 480 lbs./ft. of torque)
O - Model year - 1970
B - Assembly plant - Hamtramck, MI

xxxxxx - squential serial number (unique to vehicle)

E87 - 440 Six Pack high performance engine (390 Horsepower / 480 lbs./ft. of torque)
D21 - H.D. A-883 4-speed manual tranmission

FK5 - Body paint code - Dark Burnt Orange Metallic
H6X9 - Interior trim grade/style/color - (H= high, 6= Vinyl bucket seats, X9 = Black interior)
000 - Upper door frame color - Full door panel
927 - Build date - September 27th, 1969
019504 - order number
FK5 - Roof type/color - Dark Burnt Orange Metallic
A16 - Unknown
B51 - Power assisted brakes
C16 - Center console
C59 - Unknown
C34 - Front seat shield (what the heck is this!?!)
M31 - Belt moulding
M33 - Body side mouldings
A34 - Super Trak Pak - Dana 60 rear with 4.10 posi
C55 - Bucket seats
G36 - remote left side mirror; manual right side mirror
N25 - Engine block heater
J45 - Hood tie down pins
J54 - Sport hood
A35 - Trailer tow package
M21 - Roof drip rail mouldings
M25 - Wide sill moulding
EN1 - End of codes - assembly line 1
M88 - I have seen conflicting items for this code
N41 - Dual exhaust w/o tips
N85 - Tachometer
R11 - MusicMaster 2-watt AM radio
Y07 - Built to Canada specs

I think that is all of them...

All them options and no N96 fresh air hood or FM radio.

Also It appears to not have a stripe? I thought all R/Ts had the stripe

A16 - Unknown maybe A01, A04 or A05?
B51 - Power assisted brakes
C16 - Center console
C59 - Unknown maybe C26 for overhead consolette or C62 6-way adjustable seat?
C34 - Front seat shield (what the heck is this!?!) should be G34 mirror
M31 - Belt moulding
M33 - Body side mouldings
A34 - Super Trak Pak - Dana 60 rear with 4.10 posi
C55 - Bucket seats
G36 - remote left side mirror; manual right side mirror
N25 - Engine block heater ?
J45 - Hood tie down pins

M25 - Wide sill moulding
EN1 - End of codes - assembly line 1
M88 - I have seen conflicting items for this code
N41 - Dual exhaust w/o tips
N42 is missing
N85 - Tachometer
R11 - MusicMaster 2-watt AM radio
Y07 - Built to Canada specs

Also It appears to not have a stripe? I thought all R/Ts had the stripe

26 for the radiator is missing and all R/T's need a stripe code (V68 for delete or V6x or V9x, x=color)

Post a pic of the fender tag, they are somethimes very hard to read

Several codes listed were never on a Dodge and several codes that should be there are missing.

Yeah I thought a few codes seemed kinda of strange....

I wondered why it would have a trailer tow package but no stripe or rallye gauge package.
Then again I guess I have seen weirder stuff that MaMopar has built.

The owner says he is 99.9% sure the codes are exactly as I typed them (he claims they are easily read and didn't mistake any codes).

I think this guy is just jerking me around a little bit.

The car is no longer for sale.

After I had given him what his asking price the seller had supoosedly many (which I do not doubt) better offers and he is no longer willing to take our accepted agreement, send me any more info on the car, or better quality photos of anything.

Oh well I have enough ChallengersMopars anyways. The Alltel commercialsays it best: "You're still a ding dong!"

I just thought this one might be kinda different...Maybe the new owner will make their way on here and solve the mysteries with it.
