Question for convertible owners... little update...
« on: October 13, 2008 - 02:39:16 PM »
Do any of you have a panel that covers up the back seat? The back part exposed to the trunk that is. The well liner hides most of it, but just wondering?? The guy at Dante's told me he's never heard of one....  :dunno:

I just figured it would make for a quieter interior (top down non-withstanding) . And seeing mines out right now anyway, I thought do a little upgrading. I cut some matts for under the seat bottom (poor man's dynamat). Just thought I'd add to the seat back.  :clueless:

I'm taking you mean like a hardtop has? The well liner serves that purpose in a ragtop. I guess you could get a hartop version and adapt it to fit the CV.

I'm thinking more along the lines of..
1. quieting down the interior a little, granted I love the way NIKKI sounds, but on a long cruz.......
2. It would just give a cleaner look to the truck, well liner aside...

I've always wanted a tonneau cover that covers up the back seat, to make it look like a two seater. Like the early 60s T-birds had.

I could never find one. I did see a custom one made of out of metal on a 70 cuda at a local car show years ago, but I never could find the owner to ask him about it.

I haven't seen/heard of anything -- but I sure like your idea -- please let us know if you come up with something!

Bigs, mine doesn't have one. Never had one there from the day I bought the car, that was March 8, 1979.

I have had 3 drop top ebodys and not one had the panel but I also would like to try out one for sound.
Someone had a pattern for a hard top one they were sharing but I never heard if it was my turn.  :walkaway:
I thought it would be a great place to start.

I just thought mine was missing so I made one by trimming down one from a hardtop. Didn't even think about it never having one. Learned something again.

I was just thinking -- am I the only one who leaves the boot cover on when the top is up?

I unsap the sides, push it forward -- raise the top -- then fold it back under the window on top of the liner.   It doesn't help with the noise, but....

We do the same thing with ours.  Saves time and hassle trying to get it back on.

I always leave my cover on too. I take it you also have the aluminum bracket on the top of your seat back(?) Anyway, at first I was going to use some 2 inch thick foam stuff I got from my nephew (they use it where he works to deaden compressor noise, but it holds water like a sponge) and fill in the seat back. Then my buddy says REM makes all that stuff (true) , so I looked and they link you to places like Legendary (which showed nothing for convert) or Dantes (who I called). Maybe Ma just didn't think it was a requirement???

I am toying with the idea of a thin wafer board with dynamat on one side. I am wondering if I should put some on the inside of the plastic quarter panel covers also.
Has anyone put a trunk divider in also to help muffle the sound coming from the boot?  :clueless:

I am with Bigs I want a quiet down the ride with the top up maybe I could hear the radio also… :bigshades:

If I had a big flat (clean) work area I'd try your wafer board idea. Fit it right to the seat back  :grinyes: But I've got no space for woodworking related projects, BTW what is this hearing the radio thing you mentioned..  :roflsmiley:
