e-bay purchase need advice for shipping?

I'll give DAS another thumbs up for you.  My brother in law used them to ship his 66 Charger out here from Tucson last year.  I don't have any personal experience, but he has used them twice to move his Charger, and has been real happy with there service.  The guy that ran the depot where he dropped it off in Tucson had several Mopars of his own, and took him around to look at them.

I was going to use DAS to ship the Viper from Texas that I thought I was winning...  Didn't work out in the end, but DAS was the best price by far and are fully insured.

My only concern with that is insurance.  If you go with a nationwide car shipper, they're responsible for the car while it's in their possession - anything happens to it and they'll have to fix it.  It's good though, because they're insured for that very reason.  If bubba-joe brings 'er on over for ya...  well you really have no idea what could happen.

I think - at the price you pay for a car - it's worth it to pony up a few thousand bucks for transportation and keep total peace of mind.

It will cost a few grand even at 1.00 a mile.   A friend of mine used fed ex cargo for his 68 road runner. It took a month by rail car from NJ to Ca. but was 1200 bucks and he picked it up at the train depot

I had a quote from fedex on a car and they were only slightly more $$, honestly for the distance your car has to travel a train may not be bad, you may also see if any local (to you) freight companies run a route that way and if they can load your car on the back of an inbound trailer, you may need to find a freight dock to unload but it could save you some money.

Hmm, the price I saw from Fedex for Cali to PA was expensive - the most expensive and by quite a bit.

The problem I've seen with Ebay is that you don't have a lot of time to research things like shipping.  That's part of the reason I gave up on the Cali Viper - I just felt so rushed trying to get everything lined up.

Congrats     You are obviously excited - be sure to show us some pics when you can.  I went through a similar experience this spring -- although the distance was a lot shorter.    I wasn't confident the car was "road worthy" enough to drive it (much shorter distance than yours -- but you do have to consider safety & reliability as if you get stuck out on the road -- who is going to repair it?)    I checked out some shippers and -- like you -- got a bunch of emails.....     Ultimately, I found a local and I drove the several hours down with him and we hauled it back together (of course, that is not an option for you).    My advice -- take your time; interview the shippers and if you get some advice that makes sense (endorsments from folks you trust) -- go with it!

I used FedEx Custom Critical Passport Auto Transport to ship my Challenger from Vallejo, CA to Cincinnati, OH and it cost me $2000.  That was for an enclosed carrier.  I remember checking prices for different carriers and FedEx was about $200 more expensive than DAS but I didn't really know anything about DAS at the time and decided to go with a name I knew.
