e-bay purchase need advice for shipping?
« on: October 16, 2008 - 08:24:31 PM »
Hello all
I'm back in the Mopar camp!!
Can anyone recommend a shipper for this deal? I'm in Canada 2 hours north of Buffalo NY I'm wanting to have this shipped to my inlaws in PA where I'll drive down and pick it up from there? Anyone have any suggestions preferably a good  experiance with a shipper? Also I asked in another post but does anyone live near Valley Springs CA to check this out before I wire the money So many scams I'm afraid as I've read in other posts the shipper get there to pick up the car only to find no car and no seller??? I've tried 1 shipper online after a Google search and now I get 3-4 different shipping companies a day e-mailing me quotes??? Whats with that??? How did they get my e-mail address??
Thanks Brad

I looked into shipping my Challenger from Kansas to L.A., it was expensive, so I drove it. I had heard about several cars that had much disappeared from off of them. Saved a bundle, quotes were in the region of US$1200.00.   :money:

Your question about how shippers got your email, I am guessing that companies watch the ebay auctions and contact after.  As for reputable shippers I cannot reccomend any as I have always found the money to be too much.  Plus my brother shipped a car from an ebay auction and the truck driver had the key copied and stole the car from the winner (big mess for my brother)  If I were you I would look at all of the major auto auction companies Mecum, sotherbys etc. and see if they have any reccomendations.  Good luck

Oh don't get me wrong! My first thoughts were to do a remake of Vanishing point , fly out and drive home but it's a 40 hour drive and I don't know for sure how drivable it is! Would be an wild trip though!!! LOL

Welcome to the site and congrats on the purchase of a clean Challenger!   It would be cool to drive it back home, but it looks like it could be more headaches doing that (in case you had any major problems/issues with it).  I did that with my Stealth and must say while it was fun, I had an issue with the power windows not operating correctly and getting stuck driving through IN/IL/& WI during the flooding in August 2007. ::)

If you have the time look into renting a truck and trailer and tow it home yourself.  Lots of companies rent pickups and trailers for one way deals like that.  It may not be any cheaper but you will be with the car door to door.

I wasn't that brave, I checked out and bought my Challenger 6 months before I picked it up and drove it to L.A.      I knew what I was buying and whether it would make it, besides my wife was following in the rental which was capable of towing if neccessary.

I have always used Arrow Transport. Contact Ron and tell him Tod from West Palm Beach FL. and the Candy Store sent you. 865-389-0969. He has done many jobs with no problems for me. Also he is reasonable.

It will cost a few grand even at 1.00 a mile.   A friend of mine used fed ex cargo for his 68 road runner. It took a month by rail car from NJ to Ca. but was 1200 bucks and he picked it up at the train depot

I had these guys (DAS, Dependable Auto Shippers,  www.dasautoshippers.com) to ship my car from Louisiana to Conectticut.  Cost 1200.00 from pick up to drop off at my door.  They have several options to choose from and delivered on time.

Thanks This is the one I'm leaning towards! Glad to hear a good report! Did they stick to there quote ? any hidden surprises? They quotes me $1800 for CA. to  port in Toronto Canada 60 miles south of me! Heck I couldn't fly out there, then drive back ( 40 hour driving time) ,paying the fuel ,and motels, food and a week off work! Heck of a deal I thought?

Thanks very much for your reply!
