Something really cool that I found in my 73 challenger
« on: October 19, 2008 - 12:15:14 PM »
I was looking at all the rust spots on the inside of the car and just checking things out. Inside the metal frame where the center console would go there was a good bit of rust piled up. Well, inside the rust pile I noticed a coin. So I got out my knife and dug out all the rust. I found a handful of coins in there! The cool thing about it was, they were all from the 70's! There was one from 1983 and also a chuck-e-cheese coin from 1992. Those were right on top. But way down in the crack there was coins from the late 60's through the 70's. I just thought that was really cool.

That is pretty neat.  I know over the years that members have found some interesting things while tearing down their cars.

Cool, I never found anything interesting in my Challenger but as Don said there are some cool stories.
I would clean them up and put them in the car again as good luck charms, they came with it so why not.  ;)

I found a quarter or two in my old 74 and an old newpaper article mentioning Nixon as well as a spark plug, gum wrappers, and other trash.

I've never ripped my car apart since I've owned it but the guy who had it before me got married in the car and every time I take her out for a spin I always find confetti on the floor.  This has been going on since 1985 and has not stopped yet.   Anyone here thinking about getting married in your car, DON'T or if you do don't have people throw confetti. :2cents:

... found old playing cards, trim tag and matches besides the build sheet under the rear seat of my (ex) Fury survivor. Must be from the early 70's.

That's really cool. I put the coins in some vinegar to brighten them up. I think I will keep them in the car, that was a great idea.

Yeah, I think so. I may weld a small compartment inside the console and put them there and seal it up with some kind of plug. I don't know. Maybe not. I'll figure something out.

The oddest surprise I have found so far was in a 1969 Coronet 440.

The owner was leaving town and gave me the car for free. He had lost the trunk key years before when he was in college.

I got it open with one of the spare keys I have, there were pennies everywhere, over $22.00 worth.

The newest ones were dated 1969, the oldest was 1914.

No, I did not leave them in the car, I gave the old ones to a collector & took the rest to the bank.

Mouse poop.  Lots of mouse poop.  An old wallet sized picture from the 70's.  Possible the original trunk key.  A late 60's Hotwheel convertible Firebird like one of the first Hotwheel cars I remember having.  :D

A 1 foot chain made from soda (or beer) can pulltabs (remember those?).  Petrified double-mint and juicy fruit gum sticks.  A couple of  expended .22 rimfire cases (probably mine; we used to drive the Challenger out to the desert to shoot, no, not from in the car).  Several car keys that didn't fit.  The clock adjuster tube (but not the stem or screw) from the dash clock, a random assortment of j-nuts and trim clips, and an extra mirror adjuster bezel.  And a few dollars in change including a couple of silver quarters.
